A Unique Winter Festival

Created in 1996 by the association Petra Neue, the Roue Waroch festival turns Plescop, a town near Vannes, into the capital of traditional world music for a February weekend. This unusual winter timing in the Breton festival scene gives Roue Waroch a strong identity and a special charm, as spectators seek the warmth of music and dance in the heart of winter.

Nearly 20 Concerts in Three Days

Roue Waroch's programming is remarkably dense: nearly 20 concerts over three days, featuring traditional Breton music, Celtic music, world music, and contemporary creations rooted in popular traditions. The festival hosts both renowned Breton artists and musicians from Ireland, Scotland, West Africa, and Eastern Europe, creating unique musical encounters and moments of intercultural grace.

Competitions, Workshops, and Singing Walks

Beyond the concerts, Roue Waroch offers a rich participatory program: Breton dance and traditional singing competitions, introductory workshops for dance, singing, and traditional instruments, singing walks in the surrounding countryside, music masterclasses, and meet-and-greets with artists. These activities allow the audience to be more than just spectators and become active participants in the celebration.

The Fest-Noz, the Festival's Beating Heart

The fest-noz, a traditional Breton dance event inscribed on UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage list, is the beating heart of Roue Waroch. Held every evening of the festival, it brings together dancers of all levels in a joyful communion to the sound of musicians and invited groups. These moments of collective dance embody the very spirit of the festival: sharing cultures through body and movement.

Over 7,000 Loyal Spectators

With over 7,000 spectators each year, Roue Waroch has built a loyal following of passionate attendees who return year after year. The festival benefits from strong local roots, supported by the volunteers of the Petra Neue association and the municipality of Plescop and local authorities. It is a major cultural event for the Vannes region and contributes to the influence of Breton culture nationally and internationally.
