The largest trail around one of the most beautiful gulfs in the world
The Ultra Marin is a trail running and sporting hike event that takes place every year at the end of June around the Golfe du Morbihan, starting from Vannes. Created in 2005, this raid offers eight events from 29 to 175 km, allowing participants to discover the exceptional landscapes of the gulf: coastal paths, islands, salt marshes, and fishing villages. With its boat crossing integrated into the course, the Ultra Marin offers a unique experience that attracts thousands of runners of all levels.
Created in 2005, the Ultra Marin has established itself over twenty years as one of the most emblematic trails in France. Its course around the Golfe du Morbihan, ranked among the most beautiful bays in the world, offers runners a breathtaking setting: coastal paths, wild beaches, salt marshes, fishing villages, islands, and coastal forests follow one another mile after mile.
The Ultra Marin offers eight events adapted to all runner profiles: the Grand Raid (175 km), the Raid (100 km), the Réveil des Ducs (70 km), the Arvor (56 km), the Ronde des Douaniers (34 km), and the Vénète (29 km Nordic walk), as well as a relay event, the Grand Relais (175 km for four people). This diversity allows everyone—from beginner runners to experienced trailers—to find a challenge suited to their abilities.
One of the unique features of the Ultra Marin is the integration of a boat crossing into the course of the long-distance events. Runners board a vessel to cross the gulf, a unique experience in the world of trail running that reinforces the maritime character of this Breton event and offers a moment of recovery (or contemplation) amidst the effort.
Beyond the competition, the Ultra Marin is a true festive event. The start-finish village in Vannes offers entertainment, partner stands, a catering area, and a warm atmosphere supported by thousands of volunteers and fans who encourage the runners along the course. The towns and villages crossed also participate in the celebration, welcoming runners with enthusiasm.
The Golfe du Morbihan, with its 42 islands, tidal currents, and exceptional biodiversity, constitutes a unique playground for Ultra Marin runners. The course allows participants to discover exceptional sites such as Séné and its nature reserve, Sarzeau and Suscinio Castle, Saint-Gildas-de-Rhuys and its peninsula, Arzon and Port Navalo, offering a complete panorama of the gulf's landscape and heritage richness.
