The great maritime festival of the Gulf of Morbihan
Since 2001, the Semaine du Golfe du Morbihan has celebrated Breton and European maritime heritage in one of the world's most beautiful waterways. This biennial gathering brings together over 1,200 traditional and classic boats, from the most modest to the most prestigious, for a week of sailing, parades, and festivities.
The heart of the event consists of daily flotilla sails. The boats are divided into coherent flotillas according to their type and size: sinagots, Breton canoes, classic sailboats, working boats, yawls, barges, and traditional craft from all over Europe. Each day, the flotillas sail in the gulf and vary their stopovers between the ports and anchorages of the 19 riverside municipalities.
At each stopover, crews and the public come together for moments of conviviality: concerts, fest-noz, shared meals, tastings of local products, and maritime events. The ports of the gulf – Vannes, Arradon, Baden, Larmor-Baden, Île-aux-Moines, Île-d'Arz, Séné, Sarzeau, Arzon, and many others – compete in hospitality to welcome the crews.
The Semaine du Golfe mobilizes over 3,500 volunteers and involves the 19 municipalities bordering the gulf. The organization relies on a dense network of local committees, maritime associations, and institutional partners. The event attracts tens of thousands of spectators on the quays, beaches, and coastal paths of the gulf.
The Semaine du Golfe actively contributes to the preservation and enhancement of maritime heritage. By bringing together traditional boats from all over Europe, the event raises public awareness of the history of navigation, the know-how of traditional shipbuilding, and the conservation challenges of this living heritage.
The Semaine du Golfe du Morbihan returns from May 3 to 9, 2027 for its 14th edition. Over a thousand traditional and classic boats will sail in flotillas in the gulf for seven days.
By car: The municipalities of the Gulf of Morbihan are accessible from Vannes via departmental roads. Numerous parking lots are available during the event.
By train: Vannes station (TGV and TER Bretagne). The gulf municipalities are then accessible by bus (Kicéo network) or by car.
It is possible to board some exceptional sailboats to sail as close as possible to the fleet. Special boarding opportunities are offered for a fee. Information and reservations are available on the official website.
The detailed program of sails, stopovers, and events is published on the official website before each edition. A Semaine du Golfe guide is distributed free of charge.
The Semaine du Golfe takes place every two years, during Ascension week.
