The largest gathering of Breton dancers in Vannes
Tradi'Deiz is the largest gathering of Breton dancers in Brittany, organized annually in Vannes by the Kenleur confederation and the City of Vannes. This entirely free day welcomes around forty Celtic circles and over 1,300 amateur artists from all over Brittany. On the program: the first round of the National Breton Dance Championship at the Palais des Arts, a grand parade through the streets of Vannes, introductions to Breton dance, a fest-deiz, and a danced aperitif concert on the Esplanade de Bretagne.
Every year in April, Vannes vibrates to the rhythm of Breton music and dance during Tradi'Deiz, the largest gathering of dancers in Brittany. Organized by the Kenleur confederation in partnership with the City of Vannes, this free event brings together over 1,300 amateur artists from around forty Celtic circles and bagadoù from all over Brittany.
Tradi'Deiz hosts the first round of the National Breton Dance Championship, organized by Kenleur. From the morning, Vannes' Palais des Arts transforms into a competition arena where Celtic circles of all categories compete in elegance and precision in the execution of traditional Breton dances. The results are announced at the end of the evening, after a day full of high-level performances.
A highlight of the day, the grand parade features over 1,300 dancers and musicians in traditional Breton costume parading through the streets of Vannes, from Rue Thiers to the rampart gardens, from 5 PM to 7 PM. This spectacular procession, punctuated by the sounds of bombards, binious, and diatonic accordions, attracts thousands of spectators along the route and is a moment of emotion and pride for Breton culture.
In parallel with the championship and the parade, Tradi'Deiz offers numerous activities on the Esplanade de Bretagne: workshops for learning Breton dance open to all from 2 PM to 3:15 PM, a fest-deiz (traditional daytime ball) from 3:15 PM to 5 PM, film screenings on Breton culture, and information stands about Celtic circles. At the end of the day, a danced aperitif concert from 7 PM to 9:45 PM concludes the festivities in a friendly atmosphere.
Tradi'Deiz has established itself as a major event in Breton culture in Morbihan. By bringing together amateurs and enthusiasts of traditional dance, opening its doors for free to all audiences, and offering participatory moments, the festival actively contributes to the transmission and promotion of Breton traditions. The Kenleur confederation, which federates Celtic circles and Breton dance ensembles, finds in Tradi'Deiz a formidable showcase to promote the richness of Breton choreographic heritage.
Tradi'Deiz returns to Vannes on April 19, 2026, with the grand parade of Celtic circles, the National Breton Dance Championship, dance introductions, a fest-deiz, and a danced aperitif concert. Free admission.
