The Salon de Peinture et de Sculpture d'Arc-en-Barrois
Since 1968, the Salon de Peinture et de Sculpture d'Arc-en-Barrois has been an unmissable event in the cultural life of Haute-Marne. Organized every year during the first half of August by the Amicale Arcquoise, in close collaboration with the town hall of Arc-en-Barrois, this salon brings together about forty artists — painters and sculptors — from Haute-Marne and neighboring departments.
An artistic tradition of over half a century
Born from the desire to promote visual arts in rural areas, the salon has endured through the decades without losing its dynamism. What was initially just a modest local exhibition has become a recognized event, welcoming several hundred visitors each year: loyal residents and passing tourists who make the detour to discover the exhibited works. The Amicale Arcquoise, under the leadership of its president Séverine Mielle, ensures the renewal of the program by selecting new talents alongside regular exhibitors.
A panorama of artistic techniques
The richness of the salon lies in the diversity of techniques represented. Visitors can admire works created in oil, watercolor, acrylic, pastel, charcoal, or pencil. More original creations complete the exhibition, notably paintings on earthenware and porcelain. Sculpture also holds a prominent place, offering a volumetric counterpoint to the canvases hung on the walls.
An honored guest artist each year
Each edition highlights an honored guest artist, the winner of the previous year's competition, who benefits from a dedicated space to present a retrospective of their work. Recent guests include Mélanie Kurz (2023), Bernard Deschamps (2024), and Joëlle Pulcini (2025). A competition with prizes rewards the best works presented, encouraging artistic emulation among participants.
An exhibition venue in the heart of the village
The salon is held in the salle des fêtes and the salle de Justice-de-Paix of the Arc-en-Barrois town hall, in the heart of this small town of character nestled in the Aujon valley. The green setting and the architectural heritage of the commune — its Renaissance castle, its park, and its surrounding forests — offer an ideal backdrop for this artistic event that is the pride of the Arcquois.
