Since 2006, the Salon La Mer en Livres has established itself as an unmissable event for lovers of maritime literature in Finistère. Nestled at the westernmost tip of Brittany, Le Conquet offers an exceptional natural setting for this event: facing the Molène archipelago and the island of Ouessant, this small fishing and pleasure port lives to the rhythm of the sea, an inexhaustible source of inspiration for the invited writers.

Thirty authors for a weekend of discoveries

Each edition of the fair brings together around thirty authors, some of international renown, who come to present their works and interact with the public. Maritime adventure novels, sailing stories, essays on marine ecology, comic strips, children's books, sea poetry: all literary genres related to the maritime world are represented. Signing sessions allow for privileged encounters between authors and readers, in a friendly and warm atmosphere. Conferences and themed exhibitions complete the program.

A popular and accessible fair

One of the strengths of the Salon La Mer en Livres is its complete freeness. The eponymous association, driven by a team of passionate volunteers, is committed to making maritime culture accessible to all, without financial barriers. The result is significant: each edition welcomes around 2,000 visitors and generates the sale of over 1,000 signed books. The event is held at the Espace Tissier, a friendly venue in the heart of Le Conquet that allows for smooth circulation between author stands and activity areas.

The short story competition: writing the sea

In addition to the fair, the association La Mer en Livres organizes an annual French short story competition on a maritime theme. Open to all internet users worldwide and all ages, this competition benefits from special promotion among middle and high school students in the Brest region. This educational initiative aims to encourage writing and foster new literary vocations around the maritime theme. The best short stories are awarded during the fair.

Le Conquet: a haven for maritime culture

The choice of Le Conquet as the venue for the fair is no coincidence. This historic port, the starting point for crossings to the Iroise islands, embodies Breton maritime identity in all its richness.
