Scènes de Pays: Living Culture at the Heart of the Mauges

Scènes de Pays is the artistic and cultural project supported by the cultural service of Mauges Communauté, an agglomeration community created in 2016 that brings together six towns in southwestern Maine-et-Loire. This permanent cultural season brings live performance to life in a rural area of over 120,000 inhabitants, combining artistic excellence, diversity of offerings, and accessibility for all audiences.

Two Structuring Venues, a Traveling Program

Scènes de Pays relies on two major venues:

  • The Centre Culturel La Loge in Beaupréau-en-Mauges (700 seats), which hosts the majority of large-scale shows.
  • The Théâtre Foirail in Chemillé-en-Anjou (400 seats), the season's second diffusion hub.

Beyond these two venues, the program also unfolds iteratively in municipal halls, public spaces, and heritage sites of the six towns of Mauges Communauté, fostering proximity with residents and access to culture for everyone.

A Pluridisciplinary and Demanding Program

Each season, Scènes de Pays programs approximately 50 shows and 100 performances covering all live performance disciplines: theater, music, dance, humor, circus, puppetry, and young audience shows. The program mixes nationally renowned artists and emerging companies, with particular attention paid to the diversity of forms and aesthetics. Scènes de Pays also offers all-ages shows and school performances, contributing to the artistic and cultural education of the region's youth.

Residencies, Workshops, and Meetings

Beyond diffusion, Scènes de Pays develops a significant component of support for artistic creation. Artist residencies are hosted in the region, allowing companies to create or refine their shows in contact with residents. Educational workshops, meetings with artists, theater tours, and specific programs are offered to educational teams and the general public.

A Local Cultural Project

The action of Scènes de Pays reflects a desire for cultural democratization and connection with residents. The à la carte subscription system (from 3 shows or a €10 card) makes culture accessible to all budgets. The Scènes de Pays teams can be reached by phone and at the ticket office to assist spectators in their choices. This regional cultural project makes Scènes de Pays an essential player in the cultural life of Maine-et-Loire.

Scènes de Pays — edition 2025
