A festival born from the pioneering spirit of Ségala
The history of the Ségal'Arts festival began in 2005, when the association Le Pilou, created in 1983 in Prendeignes, decided to launch a cultural event dedicated to street and country arts. The festival's name refers to Ségala, the natural region in the northeast of the Lot, a land of rye and chestnut trees, where the village of Prendeignes is nestled on a wooded hill. From the very first edition, the procession of sentinels accompanying the truck of the Petit Théâtre de Pain paved the way for what would become a cultural institution in the area.
Theater, circus, and music in the heart of the village
Each year, the Ségal'Arts festival takes over the village of Prendeignes and its natural spaces for three days of eclectic performances. The program, supported by about ten professional companies, combines street theater, circus, puppet arts, concerts, exhibitions, and workshops. From wild cabaret to itinerant shows, from musical tales to clown performances, the diversity of artistic offerings transports spectators "from the heights of Ségala to the other end of the world".
Among the companies that have marked the festival's history are Petit Théâtre de Pain, Les Chiennes Nationales, Gérard Naque, L'Agit Théâtre Itinérant, Grand Colossal Théâtre, Carnage Productions, Les Arts Oseurs, Qualité Street, Avis de Passage, and Petit Théâtre du Ségala, a local troupe that perpetuates the festival's territorial roots.
A friendly, family-friendly, and accessible festival
What makes Ségal'Arts unique is its warm atmosphere, which festival-goers describe as one of a kind. The festival fosters friendliness, intergenerational encounters, and sharing between residents, artists, and spectators. Meals prepared by volunteers, lively refreshment stands, and meeting areas promote this village festival spirit.
The program places a significant emphasis on families with shows for young audiences, creative workshops, and nature activities adapted for children. The festival offers affordable pricing, with free activities and reasonably priced passes, making culture accessible to the greatest number in rural areas.
About thirty volunteers dedicated to rural culture
Driven by the association Le Pilou and its approximately 30 volunteers, the Ségal'Arts festival embodies a model of rural festival where community engagement and artistic quality go hand in hand. The association, active for over 40 years in Prendeignes, also organizes citizen days, conferences, discovery workshops, and cultural outings throughout the year. The festival attracts about a thousand spectators each year, confirming its role as a must-attend summer event in the Ségala lotois.
