France's coolest film festival
Founded in 2015 by the film magazine SoFilm, SoFilm Summercamp is an open-air and indoor film festival that takes place every year in Nantes in June. Designed as a true cinephile summer camp, the festival offers the general public the chance to discover in preview and in the presence of the teams the films that made a splash at the Cannes Film Festival, held a month earlier. Every evening, the Nefs of the Machines de l'île host free outdoor screenings open to all, in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. The program mixes exclusive previews, masterclasses by directors and actors, carte blanches entrusted to cinema personalities, cult screenings, film-debates, and the now legendary giant cine-karaoke which brings together over 1,500 participants. The festival also takes over the Pathé Nantes Centre-Ville for indoor screenings at a single price of €8, as well as partner venues like Stereolux and Trempo. In a decade of existence, SoFilm Summercamp has established itself as an unmissable event in Nantes' cultural life, celebrating cinema in all its diversity with a festive and popular spirit.
Since its creation in 2015, SoFilm Summercamp has transformed Nantes into the summer capital of cinema for four days. Driven by the magazine SoFilm, the festival was born from a simple idea: to offer a cinematic event open to all, combining discoveries, emotions, and conviviality in the spirit of a summer camp.
The heart of the festival lies in its program of previews of films selected at the Cannes Film Festival, presented in the presence of the directors and actors. Each year, SoFilm Summercamp offers the people of Nantes the opportunity to see, just one month after Cannes, the works that marked the Croisette. The screenings are followed by meetings and debates with the film crews.
The festival's iconic venue is the space under the Nefs of the Machines de l'île, on boulevard Léon Bureau. Every evening, this converted industrial space hosts free outdoor screenings open to all: cult films, family screenings, themed evenings, and the famous giant cine-karaoke where over 1,500 spectators sing together to the music of their favorite films. The atmosphere is festive and relaxed, with deckchairs, food trucks, and bars.
Each year, the festival invites cinema personalities to share their passion through masterclasses open to the public. Renowned directors, actors, and actresses have graced the festival over the years, offering privileged exchanges with the audience. Carte blanches are also given to guest of honor who present films that have marked their careers.
SoFilm Summercamp relies on a network of Nantes cultural venues: Pathé Nantes Centre-Ville for indoor screenings, Stereolux and Trempo for complementary events. In the past, the festival has also used the Katorza cinema, Gaumont, and Concorde. Supported by the City of Nantes, Nantes Métropole, the Pays de la Loire Region, and the CNC, it attracts an ever-wider audience, combining seasoned cinephiles and families.
The 12th edition of SoFilm Summercamp will take place from June 17 to 20, 2026, in Nantes. The festival will feature previews of films selected at the Cannes Film Festival, masterclasses, free outdoor screenings under the Nefs of the Machines de l'île, and the giant cine-karaoke. The full program will be announced in Spring 2026.
