The itinerant open-air cinema festival of the European Collectivity of Alsace
Created by the European Collectivity of Alsace, the Sous les Étoiles d'Alsace festival offers open-air cinema screenings every summer in remarkable sites in Haut-Rhin and Bas-Rhin. From July to August, seven heritage or sports venues are transformed into open-air cinemas for evenings combining screenings of French and international films, fun activities, and discovery of the Alsatian region. A free, family-friendly, and convivial summer event under the stars.
Born from the initiative of the European Collectivity of Alsace, the Sous les Étoiles d'Alsace festival is a summer cultural event that transforms remarkable sites in Alsace into open-air cinemas. From early July to late August, the festival takes over seven emblematic locations spread across the Haut-Rhin and Bas-Rhin, offering the public the opportunity to rediscover cinematic classics and recent films in exceptional settings: stadiums, racecourses, heritage sites, and natural spaces.
Sous les Étoiles d'Alsace goes beyond simple film screenings. Each evening is designed as a complete immersive experience. Before the film, a host welcomes the audience with moments of conviviality: quizzes, karaoke, blind tests, and other surprises create a festive and participatory atmosphere. Artistic and sports workshops, demonstrations, and contributions from local actors extend the experience in connection with the evening's theme. This fun approach makes each screening a true neighborhood event.
The program mixes gems of French and international cinema, from great classics to contemporary films, in a selection designed for a broad and family audience. Each edition revolves around a unifying theme that guides the choice of films and associated activities. Screenings are preceded by a pre-show program produced in partnership with MIRA, the association for the promotion of Alsatian film heritage, which features short regional films offering an original look at Alsace.
One of the festival's major assets lies in the choice of its screening locations. Rugby stadiums, racecourses, historical sites, and green spaces are transformed into ephemeral cinemas. This itinerant nature allows the public to rediscover their region from a new perspective, combining the magic of open-air cinema with the beauty of Alsatian landscapes and heritage. From towns in the Haut-Rhin like Ensisheim or Mulhouse to cities in the Bas-Rhin, the festival weaves a link between the Alsatian territories.
True to the public service mission of the European Collectivity of Alsace, the festival is entirely free. This accessibility, combined with the diversity of locations and the quality of the programming, makes Sous les Étoiles d'Alsace a popular event that attracts families, cinephiles, and the curious. The evenings, which usually begin at dusk, offer a moment of sharing and relaxation in a unique summer atmosphere, between starry sky and big screen.
Third edition of the Sous les Étoiles d'Alsace festival, the free summer open-air cinema event organized by the European Collectivity of Alsace. Screenings in remarkable sites in Haut-Rhin and Bas-Rhin, with activities and regional discovery.
The 3rd edition of Sous les Étoiles d'Alsace will take place from July to August 2026 throughout Alsace. The festival will continue its mission to make cinema accessible to all by taking over emblematic sites in the Alsatian territory for free open-air screening evenings. The program and venues for the 2026 edition will be announced in the spring.
The festival takes place in seven locations spread across the Haut-Rhin and Bas-Rhin. The venues vary each edition and are announced on the website of the European Collectivity of Alsace.
Evenings generally start around 7 PM with activities and workshops. The film screening begins at dusk, around 9:30 PM in July and 9 PM in August.
Completely free entry. No reservation required.
Bring a blanket or throw, a floor cushion, and warm clothing for the evening. Some venues offer food and drink on site. Screenings are held outdoors: in case of bad weather, check the official website for potential cancellations.
