La Filature orchestrates the Mulhouse thrill

Since 2021, La Filature — Scène nationale de Mulhouse has orchestrated a unique event in Alsace each autumn: Les Nuits de l'Étrange. Born from the desire to offer a cultural and artistic Halloween celebration, this annual event invites the public to explore strange and unsettling universes, encountering mysterious figures in about fifteen Mulhouse cultural venues. In five editions, the event has established itself as a highlight of the agglomeration's autumn programming.

An immersive journey through the city

The originality of Les Nuits de l'Étrange lies in its multi-site deployment. Beyond La Filature, the festival takes over the Musée historique, the Musée national de l'Automobile, the Cité du Train, the Parc zoologique et botanique, the Théâtre de la Sinne, the KMØ, the city's media libraries and libraries, and even the Mulhouse Central Cemetery. Each venue offers tailor-made programming adapted to its identity: torchlit night tours of museum collections, animated screenings at the zoo, murder parties, and escape games in the libraries.

Exceptional cine-concerts and performances

The artistic heart of the festival beats in the main hall of La Filature. The Orchestre national de Mulhouse presents an annual flagship cine-concert: live musical accompaniment to a cult fantasy or animation film. In 2025, The Addams Family was screened with live orchestral accompaniment. The program also includes dance performances, audiovisual performances, virtual reality experiences, and theatrical creations designed to provoke thrills and wonder.

A life-size treasure hunt

Each edition features La Chambre des Ombres, an investigative treasure hunt that connects the festival's various partner venues. For €5 per team (up to five players), participants pick up a booklet at La Filature and scour Mulhouse for clues, solving riddles in museums, libraries, and cultural spaces. This fun trail, accessible to all ages, serves as a friendly common thread encouraging the discovery of often-unfamiliar city locations.

A popular and accessible event

Les Nuits de l'Étrange is distinguished by its accessibility. A large part of the programming is free or offered at a very low cost. Creative workshops in the media libraries, night tours, and zoo events are free. Reduced-fare Soléa tickets (€1.80 for four people) are available at La Filature to facilitate travel between sites. The event caters to families with young children as well as adults seeking thrills, with offerings adapted to each age group.
