The traditional bouquet wedding festival of Seebach (no longer held since 2019)
There is no edition scheduled in 2026 for this event. This page remains accessible to archive the history of the manifestation and will be updated if a new edition is announced.
Important: The Streisselhochzeit, the great traditional Alsatian wedding festival of Seebach, is no longer held. The organizing association, the Association Culture et Traditions de Seebach, dissolved during the summer of 2020 after the last edition in 2019, and no association has taken over the project since. The municipality is now directing its summer festivities towards the Seebacher Dorffescht, an event more suited in size to the village's volunteer resources.
For nearly forty years, the Streisselhochzeit ("bouquet wedding") brought to life each summer, in the magnificent village of Outre-Forêt with its flowery half-timbered houses, the traditional wedding of an Alsatian peasant couple. A procession in period costumes, folk dances, a banquet, and a festive atmosphere attracted up to 20,000 visitors, mobilizing nearly 1,000 volunteers.
Born in the early 1980s, the Streisselhochzeit — "the bouquet wedding" in Alsatian — was the flagship event of summer in Seebach, a small village in Bas-Rhin (67) in the heart of Outre-Forêt, renowned for its flowery half-timbered houses. For three days, generally around mid-July, the village recreated the traditional wedding of an Alsatian peasant couple: ceremony, grand procession in period costumes, folk dances, banquet, and entertainment.
The event, which attracted up to 20,000 visitors and mobilized about a thousand volunteers, was considered one of the most important folk festivals in Alsace.
The last edition of the Streisselhochzeit took place in 2019. Relying entirely on associative volunteering — its great strength but also its Achilles' heel according to mayor Michel Lom — the festival faced increasingly heavy regulatory, security, and fiscal constraints. The Association Culture et Traditions de Seebach, which organized it, dissolved during the summer of 2020.
Despite the municipality's offer to co-organize the event, no association or volunteer project leader came forward to revive it, and the Streisselhochzeit was successively cancelled in 2020, 2021, and 2022. It has not been resumed since.
The municipality has since refocused its festivities on events scaled to its resources. In July, the Seebacher Dorffescht (sometimes called "Summerzeit in Seebach") is now held, a free two-day village festival that celebrates local traditions, organized by the village associations. Seebach also offers other events throughout the year (Weihnàchtszeit, Kaarwe, flea market…).
There is no 2026 edition of the Streisselhochzeit. This great traditional Alsatian wedding festival has not been held since 2019.
The Streisselhochzeit has not been held since its last edition in 2019. The Association Culture et Traditions de Seebach, which organised it, dissolved during the summer of 2020; no association has taken over the project and the festival was cancelled in 2020, 2021 and 2022, and then not relaunched. Therefore, no 2026 edition is planned.
In July 2026, the village of Seebach will instead host the Seebacher Dorffescht (July 18 and 19, 2026, free entry), a two-day village festival organised by local associations and celebrating the village's traditions. Source: Seebach town hall (seebach.alsace).
