Open-air music festival in Miribel, on the doorstep of Lyon
Swing sous les Étoiles is an open-air music festival held every early July in Miribel, in the Ain department, just twenty minutes from Lyon. Created in 2003, it has offered for over twenty years a bold mix of musical genres -- blues, rock, pop, hip-hop, disco, French chanson and world music -- on the Esplanade du Mas Rillier, a site with exceptional panoramic views over the region. Run by a passionate team of volunteers, the festival welcomes around 4,500 spectators each year over three to five festive and convivial evenings.
Since its creation in 2003, the Swing sous les Étoiles festival has established itself as an unmissable summer event in the Ain department. Every early July, the Miribel esplanade transforms into an open-air musical venue, welcoming artists from all backgrounds for evenings that blend discoveries and headliners. With its 23rd edition in 2025, the festival demonstrates remarkable longevity, the fruit of the unwavering commitment of its volunteer team and the support of local authorities.
Ideally located twenty minutes from Lyon, the festival takes place on the heights of Miribel, on a site offering an exceptional panorama over the Ain plain and surrounding hills. Historically set on the Esplanade de la Madone, at the foot of the famous statue and on the foundations of a former fortress, the festival moved in 2025 to the Esplanade du Mas Rillier, 290 route de Margnolas, offering an equally charming new setting. The fifty-bell carillon traditionally opens each concert evening, setting the tone for an event rooted in local identity.
The strength of Swing sous les Étoiles lies in its ability to offer a bold mix of musical genres that appeals to all generations. Blues, hip-hop, rock, pop, disco, French chanson, Latin and world music follow one another on stage throughout the evenings. Each night, three bands perform before an audience from all walks of life, sharing musical, convivial and festive moments.
The 2025 edition showcased this diversity with a line-up featuring Sergent Garcia, a figure of cross-cultural music, Charlie Winston, British singer-songwriter based in France, L.E.J, female trio with powerful harmonies, The Buttshakers, ambassadors of Lyon funk, Da Break, MPL, Little Odetta, Les Infidèles and Mr. Bonneville.
Swing sous les Étoiles is above all a human adventure. Organised by an association of the same name with the support of the Communauté de Communes Miribel et du Plateau (CCMP), the festival relies on the energy of dozens of volunteers who work year-round to deliver a quality event. The CCMP provides financial and logistical support, including a grant and the provision of free Colibri shuttles from Miribel town centre (Place de la République -- Allegro) and neighbouring towns.
Free parking near the site and accessible prices allow as many people as possible to enjoy these summer evenings. The festival attracts around 4,500 spectators each year, confirming its status as a major cultural event in the north of the Lyon metropolitan area.
