Run along the Doubs and its natural wonders
Since 2022, the Trail du Saut du Doubs has invited runners to discover one of the most beautiful natural sites in Franche-Comté through its trails. Organized in Villers-le-Lac, a border town in the Haut-Doubs, this trail running event offers exceptional courses along the Doubs Valley, between limestone cliffs, deep forests, and panoramas of the Swiss border.
The Saut du Doubs, a natural jewel
The highlight of the courses is passing by the Saut du Doubs, a natural waterfall 27 meters high formed by the Doubs river at the Franco-Swiss border. Ranked among the most remarkable natural sites in the region, the Saut du Doubs offers a striking spectacle that runners can admire while racing, in a wild and preserved setting. The courses also cross the Morond ridges, offering exceptional panoramic views of Lake Chaillexon and the surrounding mountains.
Three distances for all levels
The Trail du Saut du Doubs offers three races adapted to different levels of practice:
- The 42 km Trail, a marathon event with approximately 2,000 meters of positive elevation gain, starting at 1:30 PM with a cut-off time of 7 hours and 30 minutes. A demanding course that crosses the entire Doubs Valley.
- The 21 km Semi-Trail, an intermediate course offering a beautiful glimpse of the Saut du Doubs landscapes with moderate elevation gain.
- The 10 km Trail, an accessible format allowing beginner or occasional runners to experience trail running in an exceptional setting.
A cross-border event
Located on the Franco-Swiss border, the Trail du Saut du Doubs uses paths on both sides of the border, offering a cross-border dimension to the event. Organized by the association Doubs Sud Athlétisme Val de Morteau, the trail benefits from the support of the municipality of Villers-le-Lac and local tourism stakeholders, fitting into the Doubs Terre de Trail initiative which promotes trail running in the department.
