Independent metal festival at the Métaphone of Oignies, in the heart of the UNESCO Mining Basin
Tyrant Fest is an independent metal festival created in 2018 that takes place at the Métaphone, a contemporary music venue located on the 9-9bis site in Oignies. This site, a former mining pit converted into a cultural hub, is one of the five major sites of the Mining Basin classified as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Tyrant Fest stands out with its demanding and refined lineup, covering a wide spectrum of metal: post-metal, atmospheric black metal, doom, progressive metal, sludge, and avant-garde. The festival invites bands from all over Europe and beyond, offering a showcase for groups that combine technical virtuosity with artistic research.
The festival unfolds over two days, with concerts at the Métaphone in Oignies on the first day and at the Aéronef in Lille on the second. This original format allows festival-goers to experience two distinct atmospheres in two renowned venues in the region.
The Métaphone, designed by architect Héloïse Labbé, is a building with an interactive and sound facade, located in the heart of the 9-9bis mining site. This unique venue offers a spectacular setting for metal concerts, blending industrial heritage with contemporary creation.
The Tyrant Fest returns on Saturday, October 24 and Sunday, October 25, 2026 at L'Aéronef in Lille for an anniversary edition celebrating the festival's 10 years (2016-2026). The extreme metal and dark music event adopts a new format: 2 days, 2 stages, 18 bands, with an international lineup led by Abbath, Venom Inc., Schammasch, Misþyrming, and Bell Witch.
For this anniversary edition (2016-2026), the Tyrant Fest will be held entirely at L'Aéronef, Lille's contemporary music venue, on October 24 and 25, 2026. This year, the festival abandons its two-location format to bring together all its programming on two stages within the same venue, with 18 bands spread over the two days.
True to its demanding artistic vision, the Tyrant Fest explores the darkest and most radical currents: black metal, atmospheric black metal, doom, death metal, sludge, and post-metal. The lineup brings together international headliners and bands from the European underground scene.
