A festival dedicated to the hurdy-gurdy and traditional music

Vielle Etc is a unique festival, entirely devoted to the hurdy-gurdy, an emblematic instrument of traditional music from central France, and to the traditional music of Limousin and beyond. Created in 2000 and organized by the CRMT en Limousin (Regional Center for Traditional Music), the festival takes place every autumn in the picturesque village of Saint-Georges-Nigremont, classified among the villages of character in Creuse.

Hurdy-gurdy makers, workshops, and concerts

One of the festival's highlights is the presence of hurdy-gurdy maker stands, who exhibit and showcase their creations and restorations. Visitors can admire the meticulous work of these artisans and listen to the unique sounds of each instrument. The program also includes traditional dance workshops, concerts of traditional music, balls led by talented musicians, and musical walks in the village and its surroundings.

A village of character as a setting

Saint-Georges-Nigremont offers an exceptional setting for the festival, with its cobbled streets, granite houses, and panoramas of the Marche hills. The festival is part of the tradition of gatherings around the hurdy-gurdy that crisscross central France, the historical territory of this instrument. Initially shared between several sites in Limousin and Auvergne, the festival has become established in Saint-Georges-Nigremont, making it a must-attend event for hurdy-gurdy players, dancers, and lovers of traditional music.
