2026 Edition
The Dun-sur-Meuse Christmas Village returns in December 2026 for a new edition at the foot of the ramparts of the upper town, organized by the Dun le Chastel association and the municipality. As every year, visitors are expected for an illuminated and decorated trail several hundred meters long in the upper town, punctuated by a miniature wooden village, thematic scenes and nativity scenes, and ending near the Notre-Dame de Bonne Garde church.
Santa's house and a craft market (local products, local creations) as well as on-site catering complete the event. The 2025 edition took place on December 20th and 21st, with an entrance fee of €2 for visitors aged 14 and over. The precise dates and times for the 2026 edition will be communicated by the Dun le Chastel association on its social media channels.

Access and Transport
By car: Dun-sur-Meuse is located approximately 35 km north of Verdun via the D964, the main road connecting Verdun to Stenay. The village is well signposted from the main road. Free parking is available below the upper town. Follow the signs to the Christmas Village. Please note: access to the upper town can be narrow, please respect the displayed parking instructions.
By train: The nearest train station is Verdun, served by TER Grand Est trains. From the station, a car journey of approximately 30 minutes is required to reach Dun-sur-Meuse.
Location
The Christmas Village is held in the upper town of Dun-sur-Meuse, 55110 Dun-sur-Meuse, within and around the ramparts of the ancient medieval fortress. The illuminated trail unfolds in the upper town and ends near the square of the Notre-Dame de Bonne Garde church, where local produce and craft stalls are set up.
Opening Hours
The Christmas Village takes place over a December weekend, in the late afternoon and evening to enjoy the illuminations. For the 2025 edition, the site was open on Saturday from 5 PM to 11 PM and on Sunday from 5 PM to 9 PM. Consult the social media channels of the Dun le Chastel association for the precise opening hours of each edition.
Prices
Access to the Christmas Village and the illuminated trail is subject to a fee: for the 2025 edition, admission was €2 for visitors aged 14 and over and was free for those under 14. Purchases from market artisans are extra. Please check the current price with the Dun le Chastel association.
Illuminated Trail
The illuminated trail in the upper town is the highlight of the Christmas Village. Created by volunteers from the Dun le Chastel association, it features a miniature wooden village, thematic scenes, nativity scenes, Santa's house, and numerous light installations along the way. Allow approximately 30 to 45 minutes to complete the entire circuit.
Food and Drink
Stalls offer mulled wine, crepes, hot chocolate, gingerbread, and other Christmas specialties. Artisans present at the market also offer local gourmet products: honey, snails, pâtés, Christmas beer, and confectionery.
Practical Tips
- Bring warm clothing and walking shoes or boots (part of the trail is on a path covered with wood chips).
- The illuminations are particularly beautiful at dusk: arrive in the early evening to enjoy the day-to-night transition.
- The trail within the ramparts includes stairs and narrow passages: it may be difficult to access for strollers and people with reduced mobility.
- Children must be accompanied by an adult, especially within the ramparts.
