Celebrating the Forest in the Heart of Perche
Every March, on the occasion of the International Day of Forests, Senonches Castle and the Perche State Forest open their doors for a weekend of free activities called Vivre la Forêt à Senonches. This event, part of the national Forêts en Scène program by the National Forestry Office (ONF), offers a concentrated dose of forest discovery for all ages.
A Fun and Educational Program
The weekend is built around a rich and varied program. Guided nature outings led by ONF agents and naturalists allow participants to observe forest wildlife and flora awakening in spring. Families can take part in a treasure hunt through the forest, where clues and riddles lead participants to discover the forest ecosystem. The more adventurous can join the Robinsons' Camp for hut-building workshops and skill-building activities.
Tales, Readings, and Conferences
For toddlers aged 3 to 6, forest readings and tales are offered in a dedicated area of the castle. Adults can attend conferences on hunting, sustainable forest management, or biodiversity in wooded areas. These moments of reflection and sharing complement the fun aspect of the event and help to better understand the ecological issues related to forests.
Tastings and Forest Culinary Heritage
The Mushroom and Forest Delicacies Brotherhood of Senonches offers tastings of mushroom pâté and other specialties from forest foraging. This gourmet moment anchors the event in the culinary tradition of Perche and recalls the intimate link that has united the inhabitants with their forest for centuries.
An Event Supported by Committed Stakeholders
Vivre la Forêt is the result of a strong partnership between Senonches Castle (Forest and Human Interpretation Center), the Office de Tourisme des Forêts du Perche, the ONF, the Friends of the Senonches Forest, and the Mushroom Brotherhood. This collective mobilization demonstrates the attachment of local residents and stakeholders to their forest heritage and their desire to share it with as many people as possible.
