The travelling humour festival of Chambéry and the Avant-Pays savoyard
Created in 2009 by the association Instinct'taf, the Zygomatic Festival is a travelling humour festival that crisscrosses Chambéry, its agglomeration, and the Avant-Pays savoyard every April. For several weeks, the festival offers comedy shows, one-man shows, comic theatre, mime, and magic in various village halls and cultural venues. Zygomatic cultivates good humour and accessibility with its "Zygo Solidaire" program.
Since 2009, the Zygomatic Festival has been spreading good cheer in Savoie under the impetus of the association Instinct'taf. This travelling humour festival, with its quirky slogan "the festival that shakes up your mind!", crosses the Chambéry basin and the Avant-Pays savoyard every April to offer comedy shows in venues as varied as village halls, municipal theatres, and cultural spaces.
The unique feature of Zygomatic lies in its travelling format. Rather than concentrating its shows in a single location, the festival invests a different venue each week in April: Domessin, La Motte-Servolex, Chambéry, Les Échelles, and other towns in the agglomeration and the Chartreuse region. This approach allows it to reach a large and diverse audience, including in rural areas far from the usual cultural circuits.
Launched in 2022, the "Zygo Solidaire" program demonstrates the festival's social commitment. It aims to bring live performance to audiences who are far from culture: nursing homes, accommodation centres, community centres, and medico-social structures. Dedicated performances are organized throughout the festival, affirming the belief that laughter is an essential vector of social connection.
Each year, the Zygomatic Festival programs about ten shows mixing one-man shows, stand-up, comic theatre, mime, magic, and humorous songs. The festival showcases emerging artists while regularly inviting established comedians from the French scene. The shows, averaging 1.5 hours, take place in the evening in a friendly and intimate atmosphere typical of local venues.
Supported by a team of passionate volunteers and local authorities – Grand Chambéry Community of Agglomeration, Department of Savoie – the Zygomatic Festival plays an essential role in the cultural life of the Savoie region. By multiplying performance venues, it contributes to revitalizing the cultural life of rural and peri-urban towns, while uniting a network of local partners committed to the dissemination of live performance.
The 18th edition of the Zygomatic Festival will be held from April 9 to 25, 2026, with shows in La Motte-Servolex, Domessin, Chambéry, and other Savoie towns. On the program: Marc Fraize, William Pilet, Jovany, and many others.
