The Albi Minerals Fossils Jewelry Fair: Two Days of Geological Passion
Every late August, the Salle Pratgraussals in Albi transforms into a fascinating geological gallery for the Minerals Fossils Jewelry Fair. Organized for several editions by Earth science enthusiasts, this event brings together specialized exhibitors from all over France and Europe to share their love for subterranean treasures with the general public.
A Collection of Minerals from Around the World
Raw minerals are the stars of the fair. Specimens carefully selected for their beauty, rarity, or educational value are presented by specialized collectors and dealers:
- France: Quartz from Brittany, fluorite from Puy-de-Dôme, amethyst from the Vosges, pyrite from Normandy
- Portugal: Tourmalines and beryls from Serra da Estrela
- Morocco: Amethyst geodes from Midelt, ammonite fossils from the Atlas Mountains
- Madagascar: Stone lemurs, high-quality varieties of rose quartz and citrine
- South America: Chrysocolla from Peru, turquoise from Mexico, labradorite from Brazil
Minerals with extraordinary shapes and colors, some measuring several tens of centimeters, are displayed alongside small collector's items at accessible prices for beginners.
Fossils: A Journey Through Time
The fair also offers a remarkable panorama of fossils that populate the collections of amateur and professional paleontologists:
- Ammonites from various periods, from the most common to very rare species
- Trilobites from Morocco, showcasing the evolution of marine life
- Fossil shark teeth and mosasaur vertebrae
- Fossil plants and insect imprints in amber
- Echinoids and belemnites from the Pyrenean region
Each fossil is accompanied by information on its geological age and origin, making the fair a true educational tool for families and young natural science enthusiasts.
Designer Jewelry in Natural Stones
The third dimension of the fair is dedicated to designer jewelry made from natural stones and gems. Artisan jewelers present their handcrafted creations:
- Necklaces and pendants in lapis lazuli, malachite, turquoise, and obsidian
- Lithotherapy bracelets in healing stones, highly prized for their energetic properties
- Rings in silver set with hand-cut semi-precious stones
- Earrings made from raw minerals worked with respect for the natural material
These unique creations, made in France by passionate artisans, offer an alternative to industrial jewelry and allow you to acquire an object that is both beautiful, natural, and carries a geological history.
A Family and Educational Event
The Albi Minerals Fossils Jewelry Fair is designed to welcome seasoned collectors, curious families, and children passionate about natural sciences. Exhibitors are generally available to explain the origin of their pieces, answer questions, and share their passion with enthusiasm. It is a rare opportunity to introduce younger generations to the geological riches of our planet and the importance of their preservation.
