A touring festival in the heart of Haute-Loire

Altilive is a contemporary music festival like no other: rather than focusing on a single location, it reaches out to audiences by offering a series of concerts in a dozen municipalities in Haute-Loire. Since its creation, the festival has taken over performance venues, cafes, cultural centers, and multi-purpose spaces throughout the department, from Le Puy-en-Velay to Brioude, including Yssingeaux, Monistrol-sur-Loire, Craponne-sur-Arzon, Vorey, and Saint-Julien-Chapteuil.

Contemporary music in all its forms

Altilive's programming covers a wide spectrum of contemporary music: rock, pop, electro, indie, ska, slam, punk, dub, and world music. Each edition brings together about twenty groups and artists, mixing renowned headliners and discoveries from the local and regional scene. Over the years, the festival has hosted artists such as Grand Corps Malade, Stéphan Eicher, H-Burns, Zion Train, The Locos, La Cafetera Roja, and Dgiz, alongside bands from Haute-Loire like La Maison Qui Tient Chaud, Les Furles du Pays, and Naouack.

A network of venues and cultural players

Altilive's originality lies in its network-based operation. The festival brings together cultural players from the department: performance venues, cafes, media libraries, music schools, and local associations collaborate to build a shared program. Initially coordinated by Haute-Loire Musiques Danses (HLMD), the festival has been led since 2017 by the collective Rézo 43, an associative structure that brings together almost all contemporary music venues in Haute-Loire. Nearly 300 volunteers and 50 professionals contribute to the organization of each edition.

Beyond concerts: cultural activities and outreach

Altilive is not limited to evening concerts. The festival develops a significant component of cultural activities: music practice workshops, interventions in schools, round tables on contemporary music, screenings, and training for cultural players in the region. This social and educational dimension is at the heart of the project, with the ambition to reach all audiences, including those distant from concert halls and cultural practices.

A spring event, outdoors and indoors

Scheduled every year in spring, generally between February and April, Altilive offers about ten evenings of concerts spread over several weeks. While most performances take place indoors, some editions include outdoor concerts when the weather in Haute-Loire permits. Admission to some evenings is free or donation-based, enhancing the event's accessibility. With over 8,000 spectators in its best editions, Altilive has established itself as a must-attend event for contemporary music in Auvergne.
