Village-Encounter of Contemporary Arts in Salies-de-Béarn
Art en Vrac — Village-Encounter of Contemporary Arts — is a contemporary art festival that transforms Salies-de-Béarn into an open-air gallery every Easter weekend. Over 80 French and international artists exhibit paintings, sculptures, photographs, and installations in about twenty locations. Created in 2009, this free festival also offers "Ciné Vrac" screenings, conferences, workshops, and musical entertainment, providing a unique cultural immersion in the Béarn heritage.
Every Easter weekend, the streets, squares, and historic buildings of Salies-de-Béarn transform into a vast open-air exhibition space during the Art en Vrac festival. This major artistic event in Béarn brings together over 80 artists from the French and international scene, offering a total immersion in contemporary creation.
The festival's name is an acronym meaning Village-Encounter of Contemporary Arts. This name reflects the spirit of the festival: to transform Salies-de-Béarn into a village dedicated to the encounter between artists and the public, in an exceptional heritage setting. Art is present everywhere, from galleries to inner courtyards, from public squares to gardens, creating a unique discovery trail.
The works are spread across about twenty sites scattered throughout the spa town. A guide program accompanied by a city map allows visitors to follow the exhibition circuit at their own pace. The disciplines represented cover a wide spectrum of contemporary creation:
Art en Vrac is not limited to exhibiting works. The festival offers a rich and varied program of events:
In partnership with the Le Saleys cinema, a special program of films dedicated to art is offered free of charge during the festival. These screenings provide additional insight into contemporary artistic creation.
The spa town of Salies-de-Béarn offers a remarkable architectural setting to host contemporary art. Its half-timbered houses, medieval streets, and shaded squares create a striking dialogue between historical heritage and contemporary creation, inviting visitors to rediscover the town from a new perspective.
