Contemporary art trail between Sorèze, Revel and the villages of Lauragais
Every year in September, the Arts Vagabonds en Lauragais festival transforms the villages and heritage sites of the region into a vast open-air contemporary art trail. Since its creation in 2011, this event, driven by a team of passionate volunteers, has established itself as a major cultural event in the Tarn Lauragais, at the crossroads of the Tarn and Haute-Garonne departments.
The festival radiates from Sorèze, a historic town dominated by the Montagne Noire and famous for its Abbaye-école, a listed monument that houses the Dom Robert museum. This exceptional site is the heart of the artistic trail, hosting works in its halls, cloisters, and gardens. The trail then extends to the neighboring villages of Revel, Durfort, Cahuzac, and other communes in Lauragais, creating a discovery route that blends art and heritage.
Each edition hosts around forty artists selected by a committee: sculptors, painters, photographers, visual artists, glass artists, and other contemporary creators. A guest of honor artist receives special attention. The works are presented in carefully chosen locations—chapels, market halls, workshops, gardens—creating a unique dialogue between contemporary creation and historical heritage.
Since 2024, Arts Vagabonds has expanded its program to include performing arts: dance, theater, storytelling, and cinema enrich the artistic trail. The festival also develops a significant school outreach program, working with local schools to introduce young audiences to contemporary art. Free and open to all, Arts Vagabonds embodies a vision of accessible art, rooted in a rural area of great heritage richness.
The 13th edition of Arts Vagabonds en Lauragais took place from September 12 to 15, 2025. The artistic trail connected the communes of Sorèze, Revel, Durfort, and Cahuzac, featuring over forty artists selected by the committee. The guest of honor artist, Jean Luc Favero, received special attention. This edition also highlighted glass artists, offering the public a discovery of techniques and creations in art glass. The performing arts component continued its development with offerings in dance, theater, and cinema.
Sorèze is located in the Tarn (81), at the foot of the Montagne Noire, 60 km southeast of Toulouse and 50 km south of Castres.
Exhibition venues are open from 10 am to 7 pm (last day until 6:30 pm).
Free admission for the entire artistic trail.
