Underground metal takes over the North
The Battle in the Nord Fest is an independent festival born from a passion for extreme music. Since its creation, this event has established itself as a must-attend gathering for the black metal and doom metal scene in northern France, attracting bands and fans from all over Europe for a weekend of intense and uncompromising music.
An international lineup
The Battle in the Nord Fest offers a carefully selected international lineup, mixing established bands with emerging acts from the extreme scene.
Black metal
Black metal forms the core of the festival's programming. Bands from the French scene like Merrimack, Alkhemia, Gorgon, and Paths to Deliverance share the stage with international acts such as Germany's Antrisch and Servant, or Poland's Besatt. This diversity of geographical origins offers a rich and varied panorama of contemporary black metal.
Doom and death metal
Beyond black metal, the festival explores the territories of doom metal and death metal with bands like Invernoir, Officium Triste, Mourning Dawn, and Monolithe. These acts bring a complementary sonic palette, oscillating between abyssal heaviness and atmospheric melancholy.
Local talents and discoveries
The festival gives prominence to local and regional bands from the extreme scene, offering a showcase for talented groups who don't always have the opportunity to perform on major stages. It's also a place for discoveries where the audience can encounter lesser-known but exciting bands.
The Black Lab, a jewel box for extreme music
The festival is held at the Black Lab, a concert venue located in Wasquehal, just ten minutes from Lille. This intimate venue, with its limited capacity and acoustics suited for amplified music, creates the ideal conditions for experiencing concerts in rare proximity to the artists. The atmosphere of the Black Lab, dark and immersive, perfectly matches the aesthetic of extreme music.
An underground and friendly spirit
The Battle in the Nord Fest cultivates a resolutely underground spirit. Far from large commercial festivals, this event focuses on authenticity, proximity, and shared passion. The audience, composed of connoisseurs and the curious, forms a united community around the love of extreme music. Interactions between fans and musicians are facilitated by the festival's intimate format.
A growing festival
Having grown from one day in its early editions to two full days and a lineup of 18 bands, the Battle in the Nord Fest is experiencing controlled growth that attests to the vitality of the extreme metal scene in Northern France and the increasing enthusiasm of the public for this type of event.
