Festival of contemporary music in Châteauroux
The Berry Lait Festival is a contemporary music festival held annually in Châteauroux, at the site of the former Berry Lait dairy cooperative, at 93 rue Ampère. Created in 2014 by the Berry Lait collective, bringing together Tonnerre Productions, Imédia, Radio Balistiq, the 9 Cube, and the CAIMAN association, it offers a weekend of eclectic concerts mixing pop-rock, electro, French chanson, world music, and brass band. The festival celebrates cultural diversity and the attractiveness of the Indre region in a friendly and festive atmosphere.
The Berry Lait Festival takes its name from the former dairy and cheese cooperative "Berry Lait", located in Châteauroux from 1953 to 1988. After its premises were bought in 2006, the former factory was transformed into a true cultural complex hosting Radio Balistiq (an associative radio station), the 9 Cube (a concert hall with a capacity of 280 seats), and the CAIMAN association (a federation of contemporary music). It is in this place, steeped in industrial history and converted into a creative space, that the festival was born in 2014.
True to its spirit of openness, the Berry Lait Festival offers a rich and varied program each year that blends musical genres: pop-rock, electro, French chanson, world music, brass band, salsa, and many other styles share the festival stages. Past editions have hosted artists such as Thomas Fersen, Christophe Miossec, Laura Cahen, La Caravane Passe, No Money Kids, and Monty Picon.
The festival is driven by the Berry Lait collective, which brings together several cultural structures on the site: Tonnerre Productions, Imédia, Radio Balistiq, the 9 Cube, and the CAIMAN association. This collective works for cultural diversity, attractiveness, and the development of the Indre territory. Beyond the concerts, the festival offers an exhibitors' village, unique catering, and activities for children and adults, creating a truly cross-cutting cultural experience.
For two to three days, the Berry Lait Festival transforms the Rue Ampère neighborhood into a festive and friendly space. Concerts take place mainly at the 9 Cube and outdoors around the building, offering a human-scale atmosphere where proximity to artists is prioritized. The festival is part of the contemporary music scene in Berry as an unmissable spring event in Châteauroux.
