One of the most important art exhibitions in the region for over 30 years
For over thirty years, the municipality of Savonnières, a charming village on the banks of the Cher near Tours, has hosted the Biennale de Peinture et Sculpture, one of the most important visual arts events in the Centre-Val de Loire region. Every two years, in the spring, this event brings together around a hundred artists, painters and sculptors from all over France, presenting their works in the Serres de la Tuilerie and the municipality's cultural spaces.
The Biennale de Savonnières stands out for the diversity of techniques represented: oil painting, watercolor, acrylic, pastel, engraving, mixed media, wood sculpture, stone, metal, clay, ceramics, installation. This eclecticism makes the event rich, allowing the public to discover a complete panorama of contemporary visual arts creation.
Each edition features two guest artists—a painter and a sculptor—whose work is given a special presentation. For the 17th edition in 2026, the guest artists will be Azeline Tolmbaye and Franz Dostal. These invitations highlight remarkable artistic careers and offer the public privileged encounters with the creators.
The Serres de la Tuilerie, located on route du Perreau in Savonnières, offer a bright and original exhibition space, where natural light enhances the presented works. This space, halfway between an exhibition venue and a winter garden, gives the Biennale a unique atmosphere, conducive to contemplation and discovery. The Maison Mame and Espace Mame spaces complete the exhibition setup.
The Biennale de Savonnières is a popular and friendly event, attracting thousands of visitors for over a week. The opening reception, a highlight of the event, brings together artists, art lovers, elected officials, and residents in a festive atmosphere. The municipality of Savonnières, known for its petrifying caves and its preserved natural setting on the banks of the Cher, offers visitors a pleasant extension to their visit after discovering the exhibitions.
The commitment of the municipality of Savonnières and its cultural department in organizing the Biennale testifies to the vitality of cultural life in small towns in Touraine and their ability to host regional-scale events.
The 17th Biennale de Peinture et Sculpture de Savonnières will take place from April 25 to May 3, 2026, in the Maison Mame and Espace Mame spaces. The guest artists for this edition will be Azeline Tolmbaye and Franz Dostal.
