Traveling young public theater festival in the Hautes-Pyrénées
The Carapatte Festival is a unique event in the cultural landscape of the Hautes-Pyrénées. Since 1995, this traveling young public theater festival has journeyed from one town to another, settling each year wherever a municipality wishes to host it to share the passion for theater over a weekend.
Each edition brings together nearly 300 young actors aged 6 to 20, from a dozen theater workshops spread throughout the department: Odos, Séméac, Soues, Tarbes, Chelle-Debat, Bagnères-de-Bigorre, Argelès-Gazost, Luz-Saint-Sauveur, Capvern, Baudéan, and other towns. Supervised by 15 professional facilitators, they present about thirty theater plays over three days.
The opening of the festival is marked by the spectacular arrival of the famous witch Carapatte, the emblematic character who gives the event its name. This mascot accompanies the festivities: opening aperitif-concert, "Witches' Ball" on Saturday evening, and various activities throughout the weekend.
Beyond the theater performances, the festival offers creative workshops, skateboarding initiations, participatory murals, large games, face painting, and food services provided by volunteers.
The 30th edition of the Carapatte Festival, a traveling young public theater festival, will be held at the end of June 2026. The host town and program will be announced in spring 2026.
