The Carnaval de Nogent-sur-Marne: the guinguette festival
The Carnaval de Nogent-sur-Marne is part of the long festive tradition of this emblematic town on the banks of the Marne. Nogent, whose guinguettes and popular balls of the 19th and early 20th centuries made its reputation, rediscovers its festive soul every spring with its annual carnival, a moment of collective joy and shared creativity.
A parade through the streets of Nogent
The Carnaval de Nogent-sur-Marne parade crosses the main streets of the town, from the town hall or the central market, towards the banks of the Marne or the Parc des Cormailles where the final gathering often takes place. The route is organized by the town in collaboration with Nogent associations and school structures.
Within the procession, you will find decorated floats created by associations and leisure centers, brass bands with shining instruments, samba and percussion groups, street theater troupes, and hundreds of costumed participants. The carnival themes often evoke nature, the marine world (referencing the Marne), or popular tales and legends.
The spirit of the banks of the Marne
The Carnaval de Nogent draws from the spirit of the banks of the Marne to create a special festive atmosphere. The blue and green colors of the river, the evocation of guinguettes and rowers of the past, themes related to water and river nature are regularly found in the decorations and costumes. Some editions extend to the banks of the Marne with musical entertainment that recalls the golden age of Nogent's guinguettes.
A neighborhood and community festival
The Carnaval de Nogent is also a neighborhood festival, bringing together residents from different parts of the town—the center, the Parc des Cormailles, the station district. Associations from each neighborhood participate with their creations, strengthening the sense of belonging to a vibrant and supportive Nogent community.
Activities for children
The Carnaval de Nogent reserves a special place for children. Face painting, creative workshops, puppet shows, theatrical entertainment, outdoor games: the town ensures that the youngest have age-appropriate activities throughout the day. Primary schools participate in the parade with their own creations, a source of pride for their students and families.
