The festive carnival of the Marne peninsula
The Carnaval de Saint-Maur-des-Fossés enlivens the streets of the Marne peninsula each spring with its grand parade of floats, brass bands, and costumed groups. A popular and family-friendly event organized by the city and its associations, it brings together thousands of Saint-Mauriens in a joyful and festive atmosphere, symbolizing the return of spring on the banks of the Marne.
The Carnaval de Saint-Maur-des-Fossés is a cherished festive tradition for the inhabitants of this large town in Val-de-Marne, known for its peninsula formed by the meanders of the Marne River and its green, residential setting. Each spring, the town adorns itself with colors and music to welcome a popular parade that winds through the commercial and residential streets.
Saint-Maur-des-Fossés is an extensive town, composed of several neighborhoods with distinct characters: La Varenne, Le Parc, Adamville, La Pie. The Carnival is an opportunity to create a link between these different neighborhoods, with a parade that crosses several of them before converging on a central gathering point. The associations from each neighborhood thus find themselves side by side in the procession, carrying their colors and their creations.
The parade features decorated floats with various themes, brass bands and street orchestras, dance troupes, percussion groups, and hundreds of costumed participants. Carnival themes range from fairy tale characters and superheroes to animals, seasons, and world cultures.
The associative fabric of Saint-Maur-des-Fossés is rich and varied. Cultural, sports, social, and leisure associations participate in the organization of the carnival, each contributing its skills and energy. Preparatory workshops are organized in the months leading up to the event, allowing families to prepare their costumes and groups to refine their performances.
The Carnaval de Saint-Maur is, above all, a family event. The city ensures that the activities are suitable for all ages, from toddlers to grandparents. Rest and refreshment areas are provided along the route, as well as specific activities for young children: face painting, creative workshops, outdoor games. The goal is for every Saint-Maurien, regardless of age, to find a moment of pleasure and conviviality in the carnival.
