Early music in the Chevreuse Valley
The CavrosArts Festival is an early music festival that unfolds every summer in the Chevreuse Valley, in the heart of the Haute Vallée de Chevreuse Regional Natural Park. Created in 2023 by the CavrosArts association, based in Saint-Rémy-lès-Chevreuse, the festival highlights emerging talents in early music through concerts, multidisciplinary performances, conferences, and cultural mediation workshops. Performances take place in exceptional heritage sites—churches, castles, abbeys, and natural spaces in the Chevreuse Valley—about an hour from Paris, creating a unique alliance between baroque music, architectural heritage, and remarkable landscapes.
Born in 2023, the CavrosArts Festival has quickly established itself as a unique event in the Parisian music scene, passionately and meticulously bringing early music to the heritage sites of the Chevreuse Valley. Supported by the non-profit association CavrosArts, based in Saint-Rémy-lès-Chevreuse, the festival is part of an ambitious territorial anchoring initiative, resonating the richness of the baroque and medieval repertoire with the architectural and natural beauty of this protected area.
The CavrosArts Festival concerts take place in the remarkable heritage sites of the Chevreuse Valley: Romanesque and Gothic churches, historic castles, ancient abbeys, and estates nestled in the rolling landscapes of the Regional Park. In 2025, the festival notably featured the Musée national de Port-Royal des Champs, a key site in French spiritual and intellectual history, offering an ideal setting for early music. This harmony between venue and repertoire creates a unique immersive experience for the audience.
The primary mission of the CavrosArts Festival is to discover young talents in early music. The Ensemble La Ferté, founded by Paulo Castrillo, Nicolas Mackowiak, and Manon Chapelle, is at the heart of the artistic project. Ensembles such as Duo Suspiratio, Conversation à Deux Violons, Les Flots Baroques, the Æquinoxes, or the Compagnie Acroch' orbit around this ensemble. The festival also invites leading artists, such as the harpsichordist Pierre Hantaï, a world reference in early music, who was given carte blanche during the 2025 edition.
True to its commitment to cultural access, CavrosArts develops a cultural mediation program including workshops, school interventions, masterclasses, and conferences. The festival also explores multidisciplinarity, blending early music, theater, baroque balls, and live performances. The Compagnie CavrosArts presents original stage creations, such as the show Britannico, which reinterprets baroque opera with a contemporary and accessible approach.
The 4th edition of the CavrosArts Festival returns to the Chevreuse Valley in July 2026 with a new early music program in the region's heritage sites.
