Christmas at the Royal Château of Blois: A luminous fairy tale in a Renaissance setting

For several years, the Royal Château of Blois has hosted an immersive event during the holiday season, combining contemporary art, light installations, and live performances. From late November to early January, the four emblematic wings of the château — Gothic, Renaissance, Classical, and the Hall of the Estates-General — are transformed under the gaze of international visual artists.

Chromatic Dreams: Jérémie Bellot's luminous signature

The recent edition was marked by the intervention of Jérémie Bellot, an internationally renowned visual artist and architect. His monumental light creations, titled "Chromatic Dreams", have transformed the château's iconic spaces. A wishing moon bathes the facades of the inner courtyard in light, a luminous swing makes beams dance in the gardens, the chapel is reborn under a veil of sparkling garlands, and two giant five-meter-high stars dialogue with the midnight blue vault of the Hall of the Estates-General.

An immersive journey through history

The visitor route invites families to wander through the château's historic rooms, each enhanced by luminous creations that reinterpret the heritage of the kings and queens who stayed within these walls. From Louis XII to Catherine de' Medici, including Francis I and Henry III, the history of France is told in light and color.

Live performances for all audiences

Chinese Shadow Puppet Show "The Blue Feather"

In the dim light of a small shadow theater, two musicians tell a poetic and musical winter tale, populated by the emblematic animals of the château and the region. Sound effects, songs, and dancing silhouettes immerse children in an enchanted world. This family show is performed daily during the Christmas holidays.

Candlelight Concerts

In the magnificent Gaston d'Orléans Hall, candlelit concerts offer an intimate and enchanting musical experience. A string quartet performs Christmas classics and then a contemporary pop repertoire, in an atmosphere bathed in the glow of hundreds of candles.

"Nocturnal Whispers" Night Tours

Several evenings a week, small-group theatrical tours reveal the château from a mysterious and poetic angle, between boudoir secrets and royal ghost stories, guided only by the light of lanterns.

An exceptional monument in the heart of Blois

The Royal Château of Blois is one of the few Loire Valley châteaux to feature four wings corresponding to four distinct architectural periods and styles, from the 13th to the 17th century. Its Hall of the Estates-General, the oldest preserved civil Gothic hall in France, and its monumental Francis I staircase make it a unique testament to the history of French architecture. The Christmas event masterfully enhances this exceptional heritage by opening it up to new forms of artistic expression.
