Cinématokid: Cinema for Children in a Historic Venue
For nearly thirty years, the Institut Lumière has been offering Cinématokid, a cinema program specifically designed for young audiences. The setting is exceptional: the Hangar du Premier-Film, a cinema hall located in the remains of the Lumière factories, the very place where the Lumière brothers shot La Sortie de l'usine Lumière à Lyon in 1895, the first film in the history of cinema.
Two Weekly Screenings
Cinématokid offers at least two screenings per week throughout the season, from January to April:
- Sunday mornings at 10:30 AM: the youngest discover cinema through adapted short film programs, designed as a first cinema experience.
- Wednesday afternoons at 2:30 PM: older children can enjoy the great classics of animation and film heritage — Lady and the Tramp, The Aristocats, Mia and the Migou, and many other treasures of world cinema.
Organic Snack and Creative Workshops
All screenings are introduced and followed by an organic snack. On Wednesdays and during school holidays, a creative workshop related to the film shown is offered after each screening, allowing children to extend the cinematic experience in a fun and artistic way.
Cine-concerts to Discover Image and Sound
The program is enhanced by cine-concerts that combine films and live music, offering children a unique discovery of the relationship between image and sound in a collective and sensory experience. These special screenings have become a highlight of the Cinématokid program.
The Institut Lumière: Cradle of World Cinema
The Institut Lumière, located in the Monplaisir-Lumière district of Lyon's 8th arrondissement, is a unique place of memory and cinematic dissemination in the world. Founded in 1982 by Bertrand Tavernier and Thierry Frémaux, it houses a museum, cinemas, and a rich cultural program throughout the year. Cinématokid is part of the Institut's mission of transmission and education in cinema, with the support of the Fondation Banque Populaire AURA.
A Program Accessible to All
With a child ticket price of 5 EUR and a solidarity ticket price of 4 EUR, Cinématokid is an accessible program that allows all children to discover cinema under the best conditions, in the heart of a historic venue.
