A Night Tour in the Heart of Berry Legends

Contes et Légendes du Berry is a unique immersive experience offered by the Châteauroux Berry Tourist Office. As night falls on the alleys of Châteauroux's historic center, the cobblestones echo under the footsteps of strollers setting out to meet fantastic or supernatural creatures from the rich Berry folklore. History and tales intertwine to bring ancient legends back to life, where fairies and witches coexist in a world of shadows and mysteries.

A Journey Between History and Imagination

The theatrical tour winds through the streets and squares of old Châteauroux, revealing the city's architectural heritage in a new light. The route is punctuated by narrative stops during which a storyteller-guide brings the great legends of Berry to life: the miracle of Déols of 1187, a foundational event in local history, the mysterious legend of the Lady of Font-Chancela, and many other stories populated by fabulous creatures, spells, and unexplained phenomena.

The meticulous staging, playing with the dim light of the alleys and the city's night lighting, creates an enchanting atmosphere that plunges participants into a universe where the line between reality and legend blurs. The stories blend documented historical facts and oral traditions passed down through generations, offering a fascinating glimpse into Berry's intangible heritage.

An Unmissable Summer Event

Scheduled every summer on Thursday evenings in July and August, this night tour has become an unmissable event of the Châteauroux summer season. The regularly updated version of the tour allows regulars to rediscover new legends and new locations with each edition. The tour starts from the Place de la République, the city's central square, and lasts approximately two hours.

An Experience for Adults

Due to the sometimes frightening nature of the stories—witches, supernatural apparitions, curses—the tour is not recommended for children under 10 years old. This warning adds to the event's appeal for adults and teenagers who enjoy the thrill of fantastic stories told in the darkness of medieval alleys. Reservations are mandatory due to limited capacity.
