Navigating stage of world music on the Canal du Midi
Convivencia is a travelling world music festival that takes place every summer on the Canal du Midi, in the Occitanie region. Its floating stage, installed on a 30-meter barge, travels up the canal at 5 km/h and stops in about fifteen towns and villages, from Haute-Garonne to Hérault. In 2026, the festival celebrates its 30th edition, echoing the 30th anniversary of the Canal du Midi's inscription as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Since its creation, Convivencia has been bringing world music along the water. The 30-meter barge Tourmente transforms into a floating stage and navigates at 5 km/h for nearly 400 km along the Canal du Midi, in the Occitanie region. At each stop, the boat's deck becomes a stage and the banks come alive in a 'guinguette' atmosphere, with local food and drinks.
For approximately three weeks, from late June to mid-July, the festival stops in about fifteen communes — Montech, Ramonville-Saint-Agne, Toulouse, Castanet-Tolosan, Ayguesvives, Gardouch, Castelnaudary, Villesèquelande, La Redorte, Homps, Le Somail, Colombiers… The concerts are free and open to everyone, without reservation.
Beyond the musical program, Convivencia offers heritage walks on foot or by bike along the towpaths, conferences, workshops, and meetings centered around the Canal du Midi and its history, in partnership with the local tourist offices.
For its 30th edition, the Convivencia festival sails on the Canal du Midi from June 27 to July 20, 2026, with 14 free world music stops, from Montech to Colombiers. The 2026 theme: 'water in all its forms'.
