Music and gastronomy, the concordance of senses
The Cooksound Festival was a unique festival blending world music and gastronomy, created in 2011 by the association La Plage Sonore in the enchanting setting of the Couvent des Cordeliers in Forcalquier. For three days each summer, the festival offered eclectic concerts ranging from jazz to reggae, swing to oriental and African music, accompanied by a "homemade" culinary offering made from local, seasonal, and organic products. After thirteen editions marked by conviviality and eco-responsibility, the festival bid farewell in July 2024.
Born in 2011 from the imagination of Laurent Kouby and the association La Plage Sonore, the Cooksound Festival established itself as an unmissable summer event in Forcalquier, in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence. Set in the medieval surroundings of the Couvent des Cordeliers, one of the oldest Franciscan monasteries in France, the festival offered a complete sensory experience combining world music, cinema, and gastronomy.
Each edition of the Cooksound Festival explored a different theme and offered a rich and varied program. Gypsy jazz, swing, reggae, oriental music, afrobeat, electro world, folk: genres mingled in a warm and friendly atmosphere. Among the artists who graced the festival stages were David Walters, Flox, DHOAD Les Gitans du Rajasthan, Temenik Electric, Scratchophone Orchestra, Holy Bounce Orchestra, Meschiya Lake, and many others. The evenings continued with fiery DJ sets mixing electro, afro, and world beats.
The Cooksound Festival stood out for its culinary commitment. Each edition featured tastings and shared table dinners, prepared with local, seasonal, and organic products. The "homemade" preparations highlighted the Provençal terroir and the flavors of the South, transforming each meal into a moment of sharing and discovery. Gastronomy was not an afterthought of the festival, but one of its founding pillars.
True to its values, the Cooksound Festival has always been committed to an eco-responsible approach. Waste sorting directed towards municipal composters, compostable or reusable tableware, encouraged carpooling: the festival took care to minimize its environmental footprint while raising public awareness.
After thirteen memorable editions, the Cooksound Festival bid farewell with its 13th and final edition, from July 18 to 20, 2024. "Curtain call for this incredible 13th and final edition of the Cooksound Festival!" announced the organizers, thanking the festival-goers, partners, artists, and volunteers who brought this unique event to life for over a decade.
The festival took place at the Couvent des Cordeliers, Boulevard des Martyrs, 04300 Forcalquier.
