The Culture Bar-Bars Festival in Toulouse

The Culture Bar-Bars Festival is a cultural event organized by the Collectif Culture Bar-Bars (CCBB), a national federation created in 1999 in Nantes by a dozen managers of alternative cultural venues. In Toulouse, it is the regional federation Toulouse Occitanie, based at the Breughel l'Ancien cafe (30 rue de la Chaîne), that has been coordinating the local version of the festival for several years.

Several events throughout the year in Toulouse

The Collectif's Toulouse program is no longer limited to just the national weekend in November. Three highlights now punctuate the year:

• Constellations Bar-Bars in spring (2026 edition from June 4 to 6) — a festive weekend in member cultural cafes, with a multidisciplinary program (music, stand-up, exhibitions, drag, dance).
• Odyssée Bar-Bars, in partnership with the Rio Loco festival of Toulouse Métropole: an off-program deployed from April to June in about ten cultural cafes in Toulouse and Pinsaguel, alongside the major world music festival at the Prairie des Filtres.
• The national Culture Bar-Bars festival in November, the last weekend of the month, which annually brings together more than 70 cities, 230 venues, and 3,000 artists across France.

A network of Toulouse cultural cafes

The Toulouse members of the Collectif are about ten independent bars, cafes, and small venues — including Breughel l'Ancien, Flashback Café, Boudu Pont, Le Taquin, L'Engrenage, Le Bijou, Café Ginette, Betty Pop's, Bear's House, Maison Blanche, L'Astronef, L'Autruche, Delicatessen, and Evasion. These venues regularly feature local scene programming, regional emerging artists, and live shows with free or affordable access.

Spirit of the festival

Culture Bar-Bars advocates for accessible, independent, and local culture. Most events take place in intimate bar-concert venues, with significant space given to emerging artists and the local Toulouse scene. Bar consumption remains the primary source of funding for these venues, which play an essential role in the city's nightlife and cultural life.
