World contemporary music and Occitan culture in Carladès
The Deman & Passat Deman Festival (“tomorrow and the day after tomorrow” in Occitan) is a world contemporary music festival organized by the association Carladès Abans in Polminhac, Cantal. This festive and committed event highlights the diversity of languages and cultures through concerts, dances, participatory workshops, exhibitions, and meetings. From Brazil to Angola, from Cape Verde to Italy, from Occitan lands to Auvergne, the festival celebrates cultural transmission and transition.
Created in 2020 by the association Carladès Abans, the Deman & Passat Deman Festival carries a strong ambition: to offer a current and quality artistic program that showcases the languages and cultures of different communities around the world, including Occitan culture. The name of the festival, “Deman & Passat Deman” (tomorrow and the day after tomorrow in Occitan), emphasizes the urgency for society, the territory, and more broadly the planet to care about both transmission (of cultures, languages, know-how) and transition (of economic, societal, and environmental models).
The festival invites artists who make world contemporary music vibrate. From Brazilian sounds to Angolan rhythms, from Cape Verdean melodies to Italian songs, from Occitan pop to Auvergne traditions, the program embraces a wide musical palette. Among the artists who have marked previous editions are Lavinia Mancusi, Lucia de Carvalho, Elida Almeida, the Trio Guillaume Lopez, and CXK.
Beyond concerts and dances, the Deman & Passat Deman Festival offers a complete cultural experience. Participatory workshops allow the public to learn traditional dances and music. Exhibitions highlight Auvergne's clothing heritage and Colombian textiles. A charitable second-hand shop, games, a food court run by La Carlouche, and a festival bookstore focused on Occitan discoveries complete the program.
The festival takes place in Polminhac, a commune in Carladès nestled in the Cère valley, at the foot of the Pesteils castle. This territory, rich in history and traditions, is an ideal natural setting for a festival that celebrates cultural diversity and territorial anchoring. The association Carladès Abans, based in Polminhac, works throughout the year to promote the region, its Occitan language, and its culture through cultural activities, events, and meetings.
The 6th edition of the Deman & Passat Deman Festival will be held on May 29 and 30, 2026, in Polminhac. Two days of world contemporary music, dances, participatory workshops, exhibitions, and meetings in the heart of Carladès.
