Classical music festival in the Ain department
Festiv'Ain is a classical music festival founded in 2011, run by the association Le Val d'Orphée. Each year in June, international artists perform in picturesque venues in the Ain department, notably the Auditorium de Péronnas and the Chapelle de Granges in Matafelon-Granges, a historic building erected in 1325. The festival pursues a mission to make classical music accessible in rural areas and contributes to the restoration of local heritage.
Founded in 2011, Festiv'Ain is a classical music festival run by the association Le Val d'Orphée, based in Bombois, commune of Matafelon-Granges, in the Ain valley. The association's name draws a link between the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice and its goals: Orpheus, poet and musician of Greek mythology, used his enchanting music to charm the monstrous Cerberus and thus free the beautiful Eurydice from the Underworld.
The cautious organization of the early musical events gave way to more daring artist choices, now performing in picturesque and emblematic venues across the department. Each June, the festival offers a series of concerts blending piano, chamber music, voice and solo instruments. The internationally acclaimed Japanese pianist Shoko Gamo is the festival's principal artist, accompanied by musicians such as clarinettist Ann Lepage, international concert artist and member of the Orchestre de l'Air et de l'Espace.
Concerts take place at two remarkable locations:
