The annual meeting for comic strips in Lot-et-Garonne since 2015
Created in 2015 by the municipality of Sainte-Livrade-sur-Lot, the Festival BD de Sainte-Livrade has established itself as an unmissable event for the 9th art in the Lot-et-Garonne department. Every September, the Charles de Cacqueray multipurpose hall transforms into a true temple of comic strips, hosting about twenty authors, scriptwriters, and illustrators from all over France and beyond. In ten editions, the festival has attracted over 9,000 visitors and hosted 162 authors for signings, confirming its place in the cultural landscape of the Lot valley.
One of the strengths of the Festival BD de Sainte-Livrade is its total freeness. All activities and access to the festival are free, allowing all audiences to discover the world of comic strips without financial constraints. The program for each edition includes:
Each edition honors a renowned author. In 2024, the guest of honor was Grégory Panaccione, a French artist based in Italy, who was the subject of a retrospective exhibition. The 2025 edition welcomed Pierre-Henry Gomont, a rare festival guest, winner of the Jury's Adult Prize for his album Slava. The festival also awards a Youth Prize, given in 2025 to Zoé B. Simpson for Le Pêcheur et la Salamandre.
The Festival BD de Sainte-Livrade stands out for its educational component. Over 3,350 students from Sainte-Livrade and surrounding towns have benefited from author interventions in classrooms, making the festival a true gateway to reading and artistic creation. A comic strip drawing contest is organized in several age categories (6-9 years, 10-14 years, 15-17 years, adults), offering young talents a showcase in front of an audience of enthusiasts. The École d'Art de Villeneuve-sur-Lot, a partner of the festival, also awards the Prix des Rapins to the best creations.
Sainte-Livrade-sur-Lot is a dynamic town in Lot-et-Garonne, located between Villeneuve-sur-Lot and Fumel, in the heart of the Lot valley. The Charles de Cacqueray multipurpose hall, the festival's central venue, offers a friendly and accessible space to host authors, exhibitions, and activities in a family-friendly and festive atmosphere.
