Festival of clown and burlesque arts at the municipal theater of Nogent-sur-Seine
The Festival de Clown de Nogent-sur-Seine is a unique event in the cultural landscape of the Aube region, entirely dedicated to the art of clowning. Created and supported by the association Ville à Joies in partnership with the City of Nogent-sur-Seine, this festival has established itself as a must-attend event for lovers of circus, burlesque, and live performance. At the heart of the municipal theater of this small town in the Seine valley, the most talented clown artists from the French and international scene perform over a weekend of moving, funny, and poetic shows.
The Festival de Clown's program explores all facets of the art of clowning: from classic clowning to contemporary circus, including burlesque, physical comedy, and musical shows. The invited companies offer creations for all audiences, from shows for young audiences like "Rose et Archibald" or "La princesse et le crapaud" to more cutting-edge performances like "La première fois" by Compagnie La Neige est un Mystère or "On air" by Compagnie Cirque Star. The "Clowns font de la musique" by the Hilario's combine musical virtuosity and clowning humor.
One of the festival's unique features is the offering, in the lead-up to the weekend of shows, of clowning courses and workshops open to all audiences. Children and teenagers can discover the art of clowning and burlesque in courses led by professional artists, while workshops for adults allow enthusiasts to explore or deepen their clowning practice. These courses, organized the week before the festival, serve as a valuable educational extension and help demystify a demanding art form that blends physical technique, improvisation, and emotion.
The 10th edition of the Festival de Clown, scheduled from March 6 to 8, 2026, will mark a double anniversary: that of the 10 festival editions and the 20 years of commitment by the Ville à Joies association to promoting the art of clowning in Nogent-sur-Seine. This anniversary promises an exceptional program celebrating two decades of laughter, emotion, and clowning poetry at the municipal theater. The festival benefits from the support of the municipality and is part of the cultural season of Nogent-sur-Seine, contributing to the artistic influence of this town which also boasts the prestigious Camille Claudel museum.
