60 years of agricultural and gastronomic tradition
The Festival de la Viande d'Évron was born in 1965 from the desire of Mayenne's breeders and agricultural stakeholders to promote the quality of beef produced in the department. Since then, it has become the unmissable annual event for the meat industry in Mayenne and one of the most important events in the Coëvrons region. The 2025 edition marked a symbolic milestone by celebrating the festival's 60th anniversary.
A leading agricultural competition
At the heart of the festival is the animal competition, a showcase of the excellence of Mayenne's livestock farming:
- 550 animals presented by breeders from the region, all breeds combined
- Ranking of butcher animals on Friday from 9 am to 5 pm by experts
- Parade of prize-winning animals on Sunday morning, a highlight of the festival
- Golden Sirloin Competition: a culinary competition focused on the perfect cooking of sirloin steak
The giant sirloin for the 60th anniversary
To celebrate its 60th anniversary, the festival took on a spectacular challenge: cooking the world's largest sirloin steak, measuring four meters long and 3.5 meters wide. This exceptional event, held on Sunday, attracted a considerable audience and left a lasting impression with its ambition and conviviality.
Local produce market and gastronomy
The Sunday local produce market brings together local producers with their specialties:
- Meats and charcuterie: rillettes, pâtés, artisanal sausages
- Cheeses and dairy products: specialties from Mayenne and the Loire Valley
- Cider, apple juice, and local drinks
- Local produce: honey, jams, seasonal vegetables, and fruits
Festive and musical evenings
The festival also offers lively evenings:
- Friday evening: live concert with the band Drango's Band (6:30 pm-10 pm) followed by a free concert with a DJ
- Saturday evening: Cabaret show followed by a dance (reservations required)
Mayenne, land of livestock farming
The Festival de la Viande d'Évron is also an opportunity to reaffirm the agricultural identity of Mayenne, a department where cattle farming is an essential economic pillar. The event raises public awareness of the industry's challenges, the quality of farming practices, and the importance of consuming local products.
