Grand gathering for livestock and gastronomy in Mayenne since 1965
The Festival de la Viande d'Évron is one of the largest agricultural and gastronomic events in Mayenne. Created in 1965, it is held annually in early September at the Évron Exhibition Hall for three days. This festival brings together around 550 farm animals, local producers, artisans, and thousands of visitors to celebrate Mayenne's meat and terroir. The Golden Sirloin competition, the local produce market, musical evenings, and parades of prize-winning animals make it a major popular event. The 2025 edition celebrated the festival's 60th anniversary.
The Festival de la Viande d'Évron was born in 1965 from the desire of Mayenne's breeders and agricultural stakeholders to promote the quality of beef produced in the department. Since then, it has become the unmissable annual event for the meat industry in Mayenne and one of the most important events in the Coëvrons region. The 2025 edition marked a symbolic milestone by celebrating the festival's 60th anniversary.
At the heart of the festival is the animal competition, a showcase of the excellence of Mayenne's livestock farming:
To celebrate its 60th anniversary, the festival took on a spectacular challenge: cooking the world's largest sirloin steak, measuring four meters long and 3.5 meters wide. This exceptional event, held on Sunday, attracted a considerable audience and left a lasting impression with its ambition and conviviality.
The Sunday local produce market brings together local producers with their specialties:
The festival also offers lively evenings:
The Festival de la Viande d'Évron is also an opportunity to reaffirm the agricultural identity of Mayenne, a department where cattle farming is an essential economic pillar. The event raises public awareness of the industry's challenges, the quality of farming practices, and the importance of consuming local products.
The 61st edition of the Festival de la Viande d'Évron is expected in early September 2026 at the Exhibition Hall. Animal competition, Golden Sirloin, local produce market, and festive evenings are on the program.
