Festival of choirs and singing in Athis-Val-de-Rouvre
The Festival de la Voix is a musical event dedicated to choral singing and the voice, held every autumn in Athis-Val-de-Rouvre, in the Orne region. For nine days in October, choirs and vocal ensembles perform in the four delegated communes of Athis-de-l'Orne, Ségrie-Fontaine, Ronfeugerai, and La Carneille. Classical choirs, gospel, polyphonies, popular songs, and world music share the stage in heritage sites, making this festival a major choral event in Normandy.
The Festival de la Voix in Athis-Val-de-Rouvre is a unique event in Normandy, entirely dedicated to choral singing and vocal art. Created by the commune of Athis-Val-de-Rouvre, this festival brings together choirs and vocal ensembles with diverse repertoires every autumn for a week of concerts and musical encounters.
The festival spans nine days in October, with concerts scheduled in the four delegated communes of Athis-Val-de-Rouvre:
The 2025 edition (8th edition) brought together eight vocal ensembles with complementary universes: La Lyre, Les Marie-Jeanne, Les Voix-ci les Voix-là, Choramuse, Dom'famiré, Ubuntu, and Voix d'Été. From classical singing to gospel, from French chanson to world polyphonies, each concert brings its own vocal color and emotion.
Concerts are held in the churches and communal halls of the four villages, offering varied acoustics that highlight the vocal qualities of the ensembles. The Romanesque and Gothic architecture of the rural churches creates a remarkable setting for choral performances.
The unique feature of the Festival de la Voix is its traveling nature within the commune itself. Each concert takes place in a different location, inviting the public to discover the villages and heritage of Athis-Val-de-Rouvre. This format contributes to the cultural dynamism of the rural territory and builds connections between the different delegated communes.
The festival celebrates amateur choral practice, encouraging interaction between singers and listeners. Singing workshops and open rehearsals allow the public to discover the inner workings of choral work and perhaps even join one of the participating choirs.
The Festival de la Voix demonstrates the cultural vitality of the Norman rural territories. By offering a high-quality program in human-sized communes, it shows that culture is not exclusive to large cities and contributes to the attractiveness of the Athis-Val-de-Rouvre area.
