From Nördik Impakt to NDK: An Electronic Renaissance
NDK Festival is the direct heir to the legendary Nördik Impakt, a festival of electronic cultures born in 1999 in Caen. Organized by the ArtsAttack! association, which also manages Le Cargö, Caen's contemporary music venue, Nördik Impakt grew from 1,500 spectators at its first edition to over 22,000 participants. In 2021, the festival was completely redesigned and renamed NDK, retaining its resolutely electronic DNA while opening up to new artistic forms.
Ten Days of Celebration Throughout the City
Unlike traditional festivals concentrated over a weekend, NDK spans ten days in October, taking over several venues in the city: Le Cargö (Grande Salle and Club), the Magic Mirrors installed on the Cargö esplanade, the Théâtre des Cordes, the Alexis de Tocqueville Library, and the University of Caen. The festival features up to three simultaneous stages with about twenty artists, complemented by chill-out areas, food trucks, and stalls.
A Program Balancing Clubbing and Discovery
NDK combines clubbing, live performances, workshops, and masterclasses, with a program that highlights techno, house, ambient, and experimental music. The festival invites both recognized figures of the international electronic scene and emerging talents, in a spirit of discovery and sharing.
Strong Caen Roots
Since its creation, the festival has been deeply rooted in Caen's cultural fabric. Le Cargö, a central venue for NDK, is a SMAC-labeled contemporary music venue that has hosted local and international artists in its 1,300-capacity hall since 2007. NDK continues this mission of dissemination and creation in the field of electronic cultures in Normandy.
