International Encounters of Contemporary Performance in Strasbourg — 15 years in 2026
Since 2011, the Festival des Arts Mutants organized by the INACT association has been the meeting point for contemporary performance in Strasbourg. Each edition, built around a strong theme, brings together musicians, visual artists, dancers, poets, and videographers from over a dozen countries for evenings and days of live performances at the crossroads of all disciplines. A radical and demanding festival that pushes the boundaries of artistic creation in the heart of Alsace.
Created in 2011 by the INACT association, the Festival des Arts Mutants has established itself as the benchmark event for contemporary performance in the Grand Est region. Far from conventional formats, this festival invites artists from all disciplines — musicians, visual artists, actors, dancers, poets, videographers — to create original projects resonating with each edition's theme.
Each edition of the festival is structured around a unifying concept that guides all artistic proposals. Past themes include: Dissensus (2023, 13th edition), Tout perd forme (2022, 12th edition), Amalgame (2025, 14th edition). In 2026, the 15th edition of the festival celebrates the association's 15th anniversary and explores « Fugology », a term borrowed from artist Erwan Souhmi, questioning both the necessary alternatives to climate change and the cognitive biases that hinder environmental action.
The heart of the festival beats during performance evenings organized in Strasbourg cultural venues such as the Salle des Colonnes, the Fabrique de théâtre, as well as in outdoor spaces (Place Hans-Jean Arp, Parc Eugène Imbs in Montagne Verte). Each day is designed as an immersive journey where sound performances, video art, dance, action poetry, urban interventions, and augmented reality creations follow one another. Artists from over a dozen countries meet and interact in a rare collective energy.
True to Strasbourg's spirit of openness, the Festival des Arts Mutants regularly extends its program across the Rhine, in partnership with the German association Ausgeschlachtet. The 2026 edition thus extends the festival to Fabrik Culture in Hegenheim (Franco-Swiss-German border), affirming the project's European and cross-border dimension.
The INACT association launches an annual call for projects open to artists worldwide. Selected artists receive an honorarium, reimbursement of their travel expenses, accommodation, catering on the day of the performance, and video or photo capture of their work — a virtuous model that concretely values the work of performers.
The 15th edition of the Festival des Arts Mutants, titled « Fugologie », takes place from April 30 to May 29, 2026 in Strasbourg and Hegenheim, celebrating 15 years of the INACT association. This theme, borrowed from artist Erwan Souhmi, explores necessary alternatives in the face of climate change and the cognitive biases that hinder environmental action. 33 interdisciplinary proposals and about ten nationalities come together for a unique journey through the city.
The Festival des Arts Mutants returns for its 15th edition from April 30 to May 29, 2026, in Strasbourg and Hegenheim. The theme Fugologie — borrowed from artist Erwan Souhmi — invites artists to imagine sustainable scenarios and to question cognitive biases in the face of environmental urgency. Indoor and outdoor performances, an interdisciplinary journey through the city.
The heart of the festival focuses on four intense days in Strasbourg from April 30 to May 3, 2026, between the Fabrique de théâtre, the Salle des Colonnes, the Place Hans-Jean Arp and the Parc Eugène Imbs (Montagne Verte). Paid performance evenings (from 7 p.m.) and free access days in public spaces follow one another around five thematic sessions: Anthropoésie, Roue libre, Signal Fluide, Chemin faisant and Nature Friction.
The festival continues throughout the month with events at Bastion XIV in Strasbourg on May 22, 2026, in partnership with Accélérateur de Particules and the Ateliers Ouverts d'Alsace, then at Fabrik Culture in Hegenheim on May 29, 2026, in collaboration with the German association Ausgeschlachtet, affirming the cross-border dimension of the festival.
For its 15th anniversary, INACT presents 33 artistic proposals by artists from about ten countries: sound performances, video art, dance, action poetry, culinary arts, urban intervention, augmented reality art. Several participatory workshops (video/installation, dance, writing, botanical observation « Devenir baleine ») complete the program and allow the public to get initiated into performative practice.
