Baroque and classical music festival in the chapels of Royans-Vercors
Created in 2007, the Festival des Chapelles Royans-Vercors is a traveling festival of baroque and classical music that takes place in the chapels, churches, and heritage sites of Royans, Vercors, and Monts du Matin, in Drôme. Organized by the association Les Yeux Fertiles and the ensemble Tétraktys, this festival offers about ten concerts each summer in July, mixing baroque, classical, and jazz music, in historic locations. Three free open-air concerts complete the paid program.
Since 2007, the Festival des Chapelles Royans-Vercors has offered a unique musical experience: baroque and classical music concerts in the most beautiful chapels, churches, and heritage sites of Royans, Vercors, Monts du Matin, and the Romans-sur-Isère region. This traveling festival, supported by the association Les Yeux Fertiles and the musical ensemble Tétraktys, combines artistic excellence with the discovery of the Drôme's architectural heritage.
Each edition of the Festival des Chapelles takes over about ten different locations, transforming Romanesque chapels, medieval churches, and historic halls into intimate concert stages. From Saint-Jean-en-Royans to La Chapelle-en-Vercors, from Romans-sur-Isère to the hilltop villages of Monts du Matin, the festival invites spectators on a musical and heritage journey through often little-known but remarkably beautiful sites.
The Festival des Chapelles' program encompasses a wide repertoire, from baroque to jazz, including classical and world music. The 2025 edition, the 18th, is themed “French touch: the elegance of French music from baroque to jazz”, illustrating the festival's commitment to forging links between eras and musical styles. Renowned soloists and ensembles perform in these heritage settings, offering natural acoustics that enhance every performance.
Committed to accessibility, the Festival des Chapelles offers three free open-air concerts each year in La Chapelle-en-Vercors, Romans-sur-Isère, and Saint-Jean-en-Royans. These events, open to all, allow festival-goers to discover the festival in a relaxed and festive atmosphere, in the heart of the Royans-Vercors villages.
Paid concerts are offered at moderate prices: 15 euros for the full price, 8 euros for the reduced price (students, job seekers, people with disabilities), and free for children under 12. A pass for six concerts is available for 60 euros.
The Festival des Chapelles is supported by the association Les Yeux Fertiles, composed of passionate volunteers from Royans-Vercors. The musical ensemble Tétraktys, specializing in early music, is the festival's artistic partner, ensuring musical direction and programming coherence. Together, they contribute to keeping the musical and architectural heritage of this mountain territory alive.
The 19th edition of the Festival des Chapelles Royans-Vercors will take place in July 2026 in the chapels and churches of Royans-Vercors. Baroque, classical, and jazz music concerts, with three free open-air concerts.
