The fire arts in a medieval castle
The Festival du Feu takes place every autumn in the majestic setting of the Rohan Castle, a historic monument in Sainte-Maure-de-Touraine. This original event celebrates fire in all its artistic forms: metal sculpture, glassblowing, ceramics, painting inspired by flames, and traditional forging. About ten artists are invited each year to exhibit their works and demonstrate their know-how to the public.
Artists and artisans of fire
The Festival du Feu brings together creators who share a common passion for fire as the raw material of their art:
- Metal sculptors: work with iron, steel, and bronze, creating monumental sculptures and small hand-forged pieces in front of the public.
- Glassblowers: demonstrations of glassblowing and presentation of art glass creations.
- Ceramicists: traditional firings, raku, and presentations of contemporary ceramic pieces.
- Painters: artists whose work is inspired by fire, flames, incandescent colors, and transformation by heat.
- Blacksmiths: demonstrations of traditional forging with anvil, hammer, and brazier, showing the ancestral gestures of metalworking.
Conferences and entertainment
The Festival du Feu is not limited to visual arts. Each edition features thematic conferences related to fire in all its dimensions:
- Conferences on volcanoes and volcanic risks by volcanology enthusiasts.
- Artistic presentations on the color red and fire-related pigments.
- Musical entertainment that punctuates the weekend and adds a festive dimension to the event.
An exceptional heritage setting
The Rohan Castle, with its medieval towers and inner courtyards, offers a perfect setting for this festival dedicated to the fire arts. The combination of the fortress's architectural heritage and the artists' contemporary creations creates a unique atmosphere. The festival is free and open to all, running from 10 am to 12 pm and 2 pm to 6 pm, on Saturdays and Sundays, in a friendly and accessible environment.
