Open-air popular theater festival in Bergeracois, Dordogne
The Théâtre du Roi de Cœur (TROC) company is based in the town of Maurens, a few kilometers north of Bergerac. Every summer, about fifteen actors and show business professionals take over the village to create and rehearse original shows for several weeks, before presenting them to the public during a fifteen-day open-air festival.
The festival is not limited to a single location: the shows are performed in the fields of Maurens, but also in Bergerac, La Force, Liorac-sur-Louyre, and many other villages and towns in the Dordogne. This itinerant format allows theater to be brought closer to the inhabitants, in a spirit of theater accessible to the greatest number.
The TROC champions values of conviviality, artistic excellence, accessibility for all, and rural anchoring. The shows blend humor, poetry, and commitment, with free adaptations of tales and original creations. Tickets are offered at a free price or at moderate rates to promote access to culture.
The 13th edition of the Festival du Théâtre du Roi de Cœur returns in summer 2026 to Dordogne, in the Bergeracois region. True to its spirit of popular open-air theater, the TROC company takes to the roads of the Périgord villages again with a flagship show presented throughout the summer: an adaptation of Molière's Tartuffe. The itinerant tour begins in late July and concludes in early August, with about ten free or moderately priced performances in several communes of the Bergeracois.
The Festival du Théâtre du Roi de Cœur returns in summer 2026 for its 13th edition. The TROC company, based in Maurens, this year offers an adaptation of Molière's Tartuffe, a comedy described as “lively and often comical” performed outdoors in the villages of the Bergeracois according to the troupe's usual itinerant format.
The show begins its tour in Bergerac on Friday, July 24, 2026, at 8:30 PM, in the Town Hall car park (19 rue Neuve d'Argenson), as part of the Estivales de Bergerac — free performance, no reservation required, limited seating. The troupe then continues its journey through about ten communes in Périgord until early August, faithful to its commitment to popular theater accessible to the widest audience.
