International classical, jazz, and world music festival in Uzès (Gard)
Founded in 1972, the Nuits Musicales d'Uzès is one of the oldest classical music festivals in the south of France. The festival takes place every summer in Uzès, in the Gard department, Occitanie region, under the artistic direction of Éric Desnoues. The program moves between genres and eras: baroque opera, romantic piano recital, chamber music, gypsy jazz, Armenian jazz, or world music.
Concerts are held in three settings of France's first duchy: the majestic Cour du Duché, the Cour de l'Évêché, and the cultural venue L'Ombrière Pays d'Uzès. The heritage setting of Uzès — its medieval streets, squares, and gardens — is an integral part of the festival experience.
Over the editions, the festival has welcomed the biggest names in classical and contemporary music. Les Nuits Musicales practices an open pricing policy: all concerts are accessible for €10 for those under 25, and the opening concert at L'Ombrière is free for those under 18.
Beyond the summer festival in July, Les Nuits Musicales d'Uzès enlivens the Uzès cultural season with concerts at L'Ombrière in autumn and winter. The association Les Amis des Nuits Musicales d'Uzès, in conjunction with the City of Uzès and the Pays d'Uzès, supports this event which has become emblematic of the Gard.
