A tradition of excellence in the heart of Périgord
Since 1992, the Festival Musique en Sol has perpetuated a tradition of musical excellence in the majestic setting of the Abbatiale of Paunat. This 11th-century Romanesque building is distinguished by its remarkable architecture, its exceptional acoustics, and an atmosphere steeped in history, offering an intimate setting where music resonates with unique intensity.
Showcasing young talent
The festival has built a reputation as a talent incubator by hosting young, rising musicians each summer, who then perform on the world's greatest lyrical and instrumental art stages. The program includes recitals, chamber music, opera, baroque music, and contemporary music.
A festival that shines beyond Paunat
For several years, the festival has been expanding its reach by investing in other exceptional heritage sites in Périgord: the chapel of Hôpital Vauclaire, the Abbey of Chancelade, and the church of Saint-Étienne de Périgueux. This expansion allows it to reach a wider audience while highlighting the architectural heritage of the Dordogne.
Musique en Sol — edition 2026
The 34th edition of the Festival Musique en Sol takes place from August 6 to 12, 2026 in Périgord, with concerts at the Abbatiale de Paunat, the Abbaye de Chancelade and the église de Coulounieix-Chamiers. This summer season's program includes classical, lyrical, and baroque music, from Pergolesi's Stabat Mater to Vivaldi, as well as Berlioz's Nuits d'été. A spring season (May to July) complements the festival with three concerts at the Abbaye de Chancelade.
34th edition — August 6 to 12, 2026
The Festival Musique en Sol returns in 2026 for its 34th edition, organized by the Office de Tourisme Intercommunal du Grand Périgueux. After more than thirty years rooted at the Abbatiale de Paunat, the festival expands its reach to several heritage sites in Périgord, while retaining Paunat among its concert venues.
The summer season (August 6-12, 2026)
- August 6 — "La Part des anges" at the Abbaye de Chancelade
- August 8 — "Stabat Mater" by Pergolesi at the Abbaye de Chancelade
- August 9 — "Bach vs Glass" at the Abbatiale de Paunat
- August 10 — "47° Nord" at the église de Coulounieix-Chamiers
- August 11 — "Nuits d'été" (Berlioz) at the Abbatiale de Paunat, with Marie-Andrée Bouchard-Lesieur (mezzo-soprano) and Gaspard Thomas (piano)
- August 12 — "Vivaldi Battle: the clash of baroque titans" at the Abbatiale de Paunat
The spring season
The festival also offers three concerts in spring 2026 at the Abbaye de Chancelade: a harpsichord recital by Louise Acabo (May 16), a theorbo and viola da gamba program by Thibaut Roussel and Mathilde Vialle (June 21), and cello suites by Hanna Salzenstein (July 19).
