Les Médiévales Fantastiques de Domme
Great medieval fantasy festival in the royal bastide of Domme in Périgord Noir
2026
About Médiévales de Domme
The Médiévales Fantastiques de Domme is the medieval festival held in the royal bastide of Domme, in the Périgord Noir, officially recognized as one of the Most Beautiful Villages in France. Organized by EPIC Domme Sites, the event spans two days and features a large medieval craft market and tavern at the Place de la Halle, a medieval banquet at the Salle du Pradal on Saturday evening, the dramatic lighting of the Porte des Tours, and a grand costumed parade on Sunday morning through the streets of this village perched high above the Dordogne valley.
Médiévales de Domme — edition 2026
The third edition of the Médiévales Fantastiques de Domme, the medieval festival of the royal bastide, is organized by EPIC Domme Sites. There is currently some confusion regarding the 2026 dates, as the town hall has provided conflicting information: the official events calendar lists October 24th and 25th, coinciding with the Bastides en Fête weekend, while the August 2026 municipal newsletter announces the festival for September 19th and 20th, reserving the October dates for a gastronomy event called "La Guinguette des Chefs." Please call 05 53 31 71 00 before making any travel plans.
2026 Edition: Two sets of dates announced by the same town hall
The official 2026 events calendar for the town of Domme schedules the "Médiévales Fantastiques de Domme, held as part of Bastides en Fête" for October 24th and 25th, 2026, taking place throughout the day at the Place de la Halle and the Belvédère esplanade. It also includes a medieval banquet on Saturday the 24th at 7:00 PM at the Salle du Pradal, and a grand costume parade with floral floats on Sunday the 25th at 10:00 AM, starting from the Pradal parking lot. The event is organized by EPIC Domme Sites. Domme is also one of the nine bastides in the Dordogne region participating in the two-day Bastides en Fête, which is now in its 3rd edition.
However, the municipal newsletter "La Vie Dommoise" from August 2026, published online on August 6th, tells a different story. It states that Domme will host "La Guinguette des Chefs" on October 24th and 25th—a popular festival celebrating gastronomy, featuring brass bands and a culinary competition, following the department's decision to focus on Périgord cuisine this year. The same article notes: "From now on, the Médiévales Fantastiques will take place in September during the Heritage Days, which this year falls on September 19th and 20th, 2026," adding that "the medieval festival is therefore permanently moved to September each year." Interestingly, the events calendar printed within that same newsletter still shows the October 24th and 25th dates.
Outside of the town hall, only the Bastides en Fête website provides information, listing Domme for the October 24th and 25th dates with the note "Upcoming events." As of August 18th, 2026, EPIC Domme Sites has not published any updates on its own website. A call to 05 53 31 71 00 should clarify the situation.
Programme Médiévales de Domme 2026
The detailed program has not yet been released: as of August 18th, 2026, the page dedicated to Domme on the Bastides en Fête website simply displays "Upcoming events." A medieval celebration in a royal bastide
The royal bastide of Domme, perched on a cliff over 150 meters above the Dordogne valley and labeled one of the Most Beautiful Villages in France, hosts the Médiévales Fantastiques. Its ramparts, fortified gates, narrow alleys, and natural cave provide the perfect backdrop for the festivities.
Market, banquet, and fire display
At the Place de la Halle, the medieval craft market brings together artisans showcasing traditional skills: wood carving, hoop making, ceramics, calligraphy, weaving, basketry, herbalism, apothecary work, and scribing. The large tavern serves wood-fired stews, freshly pressed apple juice, hypocras, and local Domme wine. On Saturday evening, the Salle du Pradal hosts a medieval banquet, followed by the spectacular lighting of the Porte des Tours.
Parade and entertainment
On Sunday morning, a grand costumed parade winds through the bastide, featuring musicians, stilt-walkers, mythical creatures, floats, and villagers in period attire. Both locals and visitors are encouraged to join in costume. The weekend also includes equestrian shows, jugglers, and a wooden Ferris wheel.
